No, the benefit is that the people who actually know what they are doing can leverage it to be more productive
"it allows anyone to do this" isn't a benefit, anyone but the few people who know how it works will categorically do a shit job at it. It just doesnt look that way because people are focusing on the 0.001% of stuff that has been vibecoded with at least some tangible standards
There will be virtually zero scenarios where me or you will be willing to use an app vibecoded by the average joe
I dunno, I used it to make a couple of really niche things for myself and that was fine. I initially tried to advertise one of them, like “hey look at this cool and free thing I built”, but nobody cared. Then I realized I made it for myself and it was fine. It’s pretty cool that I get to just make the thing that I’m the only one who cares about it, and not have to worry about selling it or making sure all the bugs are ironed out.
I’ve kind of stumbled into this “portable software” idea and have vibe coded both a collection management tool and one that helps me organize help files from my MUD games a little easier.
THIS! I used some metadata editing software for some time now and I found myself wishing I had something that would also handle music/audiobooks/etc and ran modern code.
So I framed it up, used AI to flesh it out, unit tested, added features, metadata providers, etc..
And now I have this BADASS piece of software. Will I sell it? No, I might sell five copies.
But do I have a PURPOSE BUILT, FULLY CUSTOMIZED application that I'm going to use the hell out of? HELL YEAH.
I've made a few custom chrome plugins just to adjust some UI peeves on sites like Youtube. If I find myself looking for a plugin and can't find a good one for free, I pull up claude code instead.
I love little tools like this. I've got an Obsidian vault for my D&D setting that I manage using claude code, and I recently set up a program to enforce the organizational schema and required information on each note. So whenever I add a new note to the vault, it gets automatically linked, sorted, and tagged based on the type of note. It's been such a huge game changer for things like mapping geography and keeping things consistent between notes.

Yeah, I sell stuff online and had AI build me some hyper-niche tools for my sales cycle that speed things up significantly. An afternoon of picking items is now down to like under an hour usually.
It's such simple tools that there probably isn't much chance for bugs and slightly inefficient code is hardly the end of the world. I've been using them for months now without a single issue, but perhaps I just haven't run into edge cases that would break the tools. Or perhaps the tools are so simple and specific there aren't really edge cases possible? I dunno.
Ding ding ding. I personally know coders for 30 years who are outputting more stuff (that legitimately works, and well, because they know exactly what they're doing) in 2 weeks than they did in 1 year. It's absolutely bonkers.
Are the people that know what they're doing going to implicitly trust everything that these things spit out, or are they still going to have to do code review of something they themselves didn't write and fully understand?
