News/Article The PS5 system itself is running on pc

Recently, we have seen massive developments in PS5 emulators (such as shadPS4 and Kyty), and how rapidly they have progressed in a short period.

Now, developers have successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC.

If this momentum continues in the future, it will eventually allow players to run PS5 exclusives directly on PC, marking the end of the era of console exclusivity.

Ai likely played a huge part of it but i also think that the release of GTA VI really motivated people to work on it with much more "passion". If it wasn't for GTA VI, i doubt that people would have cared that much. Maybe i'm wrong but that's my theory.

It's because the PS4/PS5 architecture is closer to that of PC's. The PS3 was extremely hard to reverse engineer and emulate, but people achieved that without AI.

It only took more than 15 years to have playable games

I'd also throw in Sony's decision to stop releasing physical games. Spite is a very powerful motivator.

I don't think many people actually care about physical games, if they did physical PS5 sales would be much higher than they are (about 15% and dropping fast).

What was a possible motivator is Sony's decision to stop releasing their exclusive on PC. If you can just get PC versions of all the PS5 games, which you can do to this point, there's really no reason for an emulator (unless you just really like Sony's awful UI I guess).

It helps that the models all drastically improved over the last year or so. My job was big on openai, we tried to use it and found it took more time to babysit than it was worth, then a model update had it actually useable, and another update improved to the point myself and the other devs could actually mostly trust its output. You couldn’t have had AI help you through this a year ago without sinking a ton of time in yourself, no matter how good of a coder you were
