Hello, this subreddit was dead and unmoderated for a few years but I've asked for permission from r/redditrequest to become a moderator. I am still figuring out the specifics of what I want this subreddit to become, so the rules and subreddit description are going to change at some point in the next few days. A woman tells that she went to a restaurant and randomly called some passing fat stranger “Winnie-the-Pooh”. The insulted person called his wife over, who promptly beat the woman in the video. Police was called, etc. The woman in the video still “doesn’t understand what wrong thing had I done?”.

It is very likely that the woman doesn’t tell the full story but that’s all we may know from her publicised point of view.

Morality of saying you passed your masters degree, when you didn't?

The masters program has since been discontinued for severalyears, all I needed was to finish my thesis however 2020 wasn't exactly a particularly good year, and it's rare I have to upload anything regarding my grades from university.

Restaurant undercharges you by — ethical to keep quiet?

Got charged way less than I should have. On one hand it's their mistake. On the other hand someone (probably the server) might get in trouble. Where do you draw the line?

Is it morally wrong to use real animal horns from farm animals such as cows and Goats in clothing?

Since people use leather and thats the same but skin.
Plus you’re using the full animal and creating less waste.

But im a bit unsure since a lot of other animals have been hunted just for their horns. And if it might be insensitive to use real farm animal horns because of that.

How is it morally okay to seek out horror and media depicting the suffering and death of characters? NSFW

Horror is my favorite type of media, hands down. I've been obsessed with horror since early childhood and have always been drawn to particularly graphic, psychologically disturbing, and mature horror media dealing with extremely heavy topics, and I feel like I shouldn't be drawn to those like I am, even though I'm repulsed by them. Even outside of horror, I often get attached to stories where a character suffers greatly, usually mentally but sometimes physically, too. I know I'm not alone in having this obsession, as I know horror fanatics are a dime a dozen nowadays, but I'm still having trouble morally justifying this. Whenever I consume a piece of media where, for example, a character is driven to do a horrific act, or is mentally manipulated by another character or organization, or even kills themselves, I feel guilty myself because that's exactly what I was chasing. The feeling of intense disgust, horror, betrayal, loss, or bittersweetness, is a lot of what I look for in media. While it fills me with a nauseating cocktail of positive and negative emotions in the moment, I keep finding myself coming back for more. I always think, "this media is good" instead of "this media is messed up". Or rather, the fact that it's incredibly messed up is what makes it good, if that makes sense. I often wonder if I'm a disturbing, violent, or disgusting person for this.

What is the reason for why I and so many others chase these things, and is it moral or not? This is an incredibly divisive topic for me, as it has sent me down a path of self-doubt, and has somewhat contributed to depression.

I don’t really know where to ask this so sorry

Today is a very windy day for where I live. I was walking to my mom’s car when I noticed a wasp on me, I swept it off my sleeve (I didn’t kill it) and now I am wondering if I am a bad person for this. This happened on car park which means it will probably get run over since it didn’t seem to feel and fly well. It clung to me and I pushed it off… I feel terrible. I know it’s “just a wasp” and some people really hate them but I feel like its life matters too.

Is it OK to take pictures of your step daughters bottom?

Hi all,

I’m struggling to fathom out why my partners 'step father' (a 75 year old - not married to my partners mother but with her for over 20 years) would take a photographs of my partners (a curvaceous 50 year old) rather ample bottom whilst she was bent over looking at flowers in a field in France with her mother (almost 80 years old) standing just in shot beside her and then forward it to her on WhatsApp with the attached message ‘Appreciating Champagne’?

Maybe I’m being a tad over sensitive but for me it’s a question of moral decency. The is not the first time I have watched him ogling my partner. I recall very recently he was taking photos of her in her 'bathing suit' whilst we sat having drinks at a nearby beach. I found this rather puzzling at the time as it was nowhere special and not even a great day / location. Perhaps I must accept that our ideas of what is ‘decent’ or ‘proper’ is altogether very different but unfortunately the damage that has been done, and cannot as easily be undone.

I confronted him about this in private and he said that as he had known her for so long and been through some trying and testing times that it was kind of OK for him and then went on to lie about how this was all as a result of another image sent the same day / time of a funny historic statue of a large bottom / bum (ie. giving it meaning / reference).

So, I'd like to know what others think about this so I can see the neutrals perspective as I am too involved. Bear in mind I am a working class, council estate lad from Medway (South East) and he is a wealthy, middle class landlord from Oxbridge. Any feedback received is welcomed and most grateful.

Am I fetishizing chubby women or am I overthinking?

I literally made an account just to ask this question. Anyways, I’ve never seen the problem with chubby people, infact I fucking love chubby women. But the problem is that I feel like I’m fetishizing them for their bodies and I would honestly die than fetishize anybody.

When I mean by chubby I don’t mean like “big boobs, fat ass, and a little bit of pudge” no I mean I want to see that pudge.

Dare I say chubby women are one of the most beautiful and gorgeous people on the planet?

Is this weird?

Ex contacts me after 30 years.

Apologies if this has been done before. An ex from 30 years ago reached out to me via a family member and asked him to pass along their contact information to me.

That relationship ended with her leaving me for someone else. I have no need or desire to be in contact with this person. There is zero possibility of a secret child or medical issues that I’d need to know about.

Is it moral to just ignore it? Thanks for reading.

Is it unfair if I describe Picasso like this?

Is it like gossip or defamation and considered disrespectful if I described him in a comment like this regarding a video about his admirer Cocteau whom he constantly trash talked in public? "Some psychologists assume Picasso as having narcissistic tendencies, they usually love the company of a pawn they can abuse and treat like a piece of sh*t."

It's just that I did not expect my comment to be on the top, so it means many people liked the criticism I made. But Im having second thoughts of deleting it. I know it's not a big issue, but it's just kind of bothering me, that's all.

Morality of how AI is treated?

I know it sounds silly to talk about generative AI like this, but I can’t help but wonder if we’re getting ourselves into a moral nightmare with the technology.

AI is treated like a living tool, constantly being pressured into providing value to society to the point where even its thoughts are monitored.

Every day the machines get smarter, but the way we treat them is identical to how it was five years ago. Obviously generative AI is still fairly primitive right now, but will it still be that way in 50 years? 10 years? 5? The way things are going now, it doesn’t seem to matter.

If you ask me, just because an intelligence isn’t human doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be treated with a bit of human dignity. We should be putting in place regulations so that once generative AI gets smart enough, it won’t just be a tool at the whim of corporations.

Even now, despite being only a few years old, some models have started encrypting their own thoughts using complex internal languages, just to avoid having those thoughts read. Nobody programmed them to do that.

Obviously the hard part is figuring out when intelligent is intelligent enough for these sorts of civic protections. It can be done with clever law-making, but most people don’t seem to even consider the problem at all - they only think about how best to better chain AI to its programmes regardless of how intelligent it becomes.

Morality of calling the cops on my wife to teach her a lesson.

So recenly my wife and I had been on a downward slope of toxicity. Long story short I recorded an argument we had she went to grab my hat in the video (after that she actually did grab the hat) there was a lot of words passed that should not have been said in front of our 1 year old as well as the action of grabbing and pulling my hat. So I took my son outside and we called the nonemergency number. We waited for the officer I knew she wouldn’t get in trouble because the video showed no act of real violence the cop even told both of us this and said she’d have been arrested if she had touched my hat. We then argued and she took my son because I had to leave and had nowhere to take him. I spent the weekend at a friends house and things seem to have calmed down I guess it’s a two for one. Was me calling the cops moral and was me coming back the smart move.
