I saw a ducky once Buick brake lights are too low

Not my pictures, but saw this car today. The brake lights are definitely not where you'd expect them and annoyingly low

This is true, but the Buick in question literally has fixtures on the rear quarters already where the brake lights could have been put!

I think that makes it notably worse. If there was nothing there, I'd subconsciously be looking elsewhere for the for the brake lights. But the fact that the housing do exist, but don't contain the brake lights as expected would likely add a fraction of a second to the time it takes my brain to process them being activated.

I agree 100%. It’s not just illogical, it’s an actual step back.

1000%...if it LOOKS like a safety feature meant solely for the benefit of other drivers, please make them function like as such!

Those are blinkers and while not required to be separate housings in the US, I think they should be separate, makes it easier to differentiate between braking, turning, and both simultaneously. Also, the car literally has a brake light at the top of the rear windshield. How is that too low.

Not every vehicle has that. Even those 2 pics there show one does, one doesn't. That goes right back to being trained to look elsewhere. I think it would be more beneficial to change blinkers to only being orange while brake light are red. Eliminate the blinkers that are red ao there can't be confusion. Then theres no need for a separate housing. They'd always be a different color.

They’re the same model of car though? What difference are you seeing?

But not every model has the same lighting package. The white one has a red led light strip above the rear gate. The black one does not have that same light strip

The black one does have the same light strip, but the brakes aren't engaged. It just has its DRL's or headlights on.

Its stopped at an intersection. Unless someone put their car in park, which would be odd, it would be lit up.

The third brake light is government mandated. You can see it on the black one too - it just isn’t lit up.

They absolutely do have the same brakes on each vehicle, it’s plain as day. And also, I like separate blinker colors too trust me. But this design is stupid. They can make literally any shape into a light nowadays, they could make the brake light and a separate light fit into that fender housing.

Also, some vehicles will change LED color already. My old Ram 1500’s brake lights would turn yellow when functioning as a blinker.

This design is dumb. The whole point in my opinion to the 3rd brake light is confirmation that the brakes are applied (vs just running lights) as well as better visibility. These down in the bumper are only of value to someone on a Big Wheel trike.

Hey man, I think I agree with your sentiment. They should be separate lights, but not separate housings. There's a good Technology Connections video on it. But when you comment the exact same thing 3+X you aren't adding to the conversation. The tail lights are too low because when you learned to drive you weren't trained to look at the bumper for lights. It's in a spot you don't expect it and when fractions of a second matter it matters. That third light on the windshield also could fail or the hatch could be open if they're hauling something. It's not foolproof.

No, in the Envistas, the bumper lights are both the brake lights and turn signals. The lights above only come on when the headlights are on and are partially used for the reverse lights.

They are blinkers and also could have easily made a separate brake light in the same housing. It wasn't hard, they just made it hard.

Adding because new information and you're wrong: YOU'RE WRONG. They're not even blinkers either. The blinkers and brake lights are both down below in the same light. How stupid is that? The only thing that the top ones are for is tail lights when the headlights come on and a tiny sliver for the reverse lights, which is also stupid. The reverse lights should be bigger and visible.
