Never in my life would I put a credit card anywhere but in my wallet on my person or in a carry on that never leaves my shoulder

NOTHING of high value goes in my (seldom) checked bag, ever.

Bags get searched by anonymous employees. Bags get lost and go on journeys around the world before getting back to you. Bags get misplaced at baggage claim.

It’s a rookie mistake to put anything you need within the first 24 hours at your destination or anything irreplaceable in a checked bag.

Absolutely. Never worth it to lose something valuable or be without your medication, et al.
