Honestly, I think airports can solve this problem by putting a visual line or zone that goes around the conveyor belt about a meter or two away and having signage and speakers that say, please wait outside the whatever color line/area until you visually see your bag. That way everybody can visually see when they’re being inconsiderate.

One day, if I’m ever an airport designer I’ll make it happen for all the people on this subreddit.

The Denver airport 100% has the lines on the floor at carousels. Granted not the speakers or annoucement. People still act like standing 3' back means you left room for them to stand in-front of you. Asshats do asshat things.

Do they have it camouflaged with the regular floor? I don't remember seeing that, and I was there not even a month ago.

Raise the conveyor a little bit higher so you can slope the floor towards it. It doesn't take much of slope before it's more comfortable to stand on a flat floor.

Please work on the drop off/pick up zones too.

There has to be a better way to manage that flow.

They have this in Japan and it works quite well. That said, Japan has a deep culture of collectivism and shame avoidance and that means not doing garbage like we see in the OP.

I think it could still improve things in the US and Europe but undoubtedly there would still be selfish clowns who ignore them.

They have that in the Arlanda Airport by Stockholm, Sweden. Swedish people are rule followers, so they stay behind it and it's great.

But in a lot of countries where people don't really care as much about rules and organization, it would be very different.
