Brand new…. I didn’t expect my deodorant to have more air than a bag of chips… won’t be getting this again.

The pine tar soap has always been like that… pine tar is black so the soap is black lmfao

And don’t lie that shit smells bomb- but I agree I didn’t like that I had rinse the whole shower each time cuz of it so had to switch lol

I heavily used a pine tar & sulphur soap in the 90s and it wasn't black. It's going to be brownish at worst. Black pine tar soap is usually dye.

I developed an irrational hated of pine tar as a child. And I am just trying to deal with the fact that people are trying to sneak it into my soap. There should be a law.

The concepts of soap and pine tar shouldn't exist simultaneously.

It’s not really sneaking it when the scent with pine tar is called “Pine Tar.”

Pine tar has been used as antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory wound treatment for multiple millennia which is why pine tar soap became a commercial product a bit less than two centuries ago. Pine tar soap has a long tradition of existing, but it absolutely should be extremely clearly marked.

I did not know that about it being pine tar soap and that’s why it’s left a residue.

I won’t lie, it didnt smell very good either. At least not when compared to other brands at similar price points. I’ve been buying premium bar soaps for a while and this soap didn’t smell much better than dial, especially after the shower. I just went back to buying Kiehl’s. Hell even Targets house brand, good fellow smelt better and a quarter of the cost.

Pine tar scent is an acquired taste, and pine tar soap being black is usually a dye. Pine tar is dark brown, not black. Soaps do not use so much pine tar that it naturally could be actually black.

edit: some soaps marketed as pine tar on the big print are only pine tar scented too, it will say in the details.

I don’t think you should be eating any soap, especially not so much you get an acquired taste for it ;)

Try Grandpa's. Sasquatch pine tar is terrible. I refuse to buy from that company because of how terrible this product was.

I always thought it was the charcoal leaving the residue. I assumed it had activated charcoal in it.

I don't know how I ended up here, but Packer's Pines is great. I've used their sampoo, conditioner, and bar soap. Highly recommend.

Interesting. I have a weird stockpile when I thought I’d cancelled 4 times but kept getting batches. I’m gonna try an old pine tar bar. Sounds like they went way off the rails with their product, and it was always overpriced.

"Real" pine tar soap smells far smokier and almost like burning rubber at first, but it's brown and won't stain your tub. Personally I use it for my head, it makes my scalp less itchy.

Dr squatch imo smells like pine-sol (not a diss as I do like it), it is a "real" pine tar soap but also heavily toned down to be more acceptable to the mass market.

Both Grandpa's and Packer's Pine got mentioned, I love both, Grandpa's is generally more for less (3.25 oz for ~$5 vs ~$7 for 3.2 oz) but Packer's has a "pine tar scrub" with some mixture of scratchy bits that's more reminiscent of the dr squatch bar. Highly recommend either brand.

their pine tar USED to run brown, not black. i stopped using them before the sellout because their soap would breakdown in the shower much faster than any other i used. kept it out of hot water and dry until use. still was like a bar a week or every other week depending on the one used. Didn't lnow they sold out, but makes sense. tried their cologne once more to see if they got better, and that smell disappeared in minutes as well. they have never been a good company, just okay and expensive.
