Crazy such a popular and great IP is so easily thrown in the bin like that when it has so much potential still. It should be printing money and success. It's too good to be wasted.

Sucks to hear when going through the trilogy for my 3rd time too.

Hopefully they sell the IP, someone might be able.to do something nice with it.

These maga companies dont sell IPs like that. At best they'll license it out, but even then who knows with how many IPs they own

It's the EA way (TM).

That’s what’s confusing me? People are saying EA would never bother with it but why are they so certain? It’s a game with a built in fanbase. It’s virtually guaranteed to sell a good number of copies. Isn’t that better than taking a chance on a completely untested new game?

Almost by definition Mass Effect has to be a AAA game. In the 2010s that cost a few tens of millions. Today it's $200m and they have to pick and choose where to invest. There's a reason why so many AAA studios are failing to make profit

Yeesh. Well I’m no expert but hard for me to believe that there’s dozens of games yearly being that kind of budget but if that’s true then wow, crazy. That’s like a budget given to an A-list director known for churning out blockbusters.

Hopefully that game Osiris Reborn or whatever it’s called, which I think is being made by an indie developer, shows that good sci fi shooters can be made without breaking the bank

That's my thinking too

At this point, Mass Effect existed as something that had little more than potential. It's been nearly 10 years since the last game, and Andromeda wasn't exactly well-received.

BioWare announced the now-canceled game nearly six years ago. Since then, we've had next to nothing in terms of information and updates... and come to find out, it was still considered to be in "early development."

If anything, Mass Effect was being wasted by the current iteration of BioWare.

Mass Effect is just an idea. Andromeda was a flop. You can't just press the button on the Mass Effect machine and have a new game pop out. 99.99999% of a game is execution. The IP is just the starting point. Just look at how many failure sequels we've seen in both games and movies.

Felt the same way about destiny 2. There is such a loyal player base with both of these games and yet they had to stop developing for them. It sucks when a game you love and play every day gets shutdown. If I had a nickel for every time that happened I would have 4 nickels. RIP Mass effect, Destiny 2, Overwatch 1 and Battleborn 😢

Bungie has history of bad decisions. That company was independent for a lot of time and it was management choice to get into big corpos. It didnt improve much when they split from activision and its no wonder they didnt improve after getting into sony as its subsidary.

Yeah the company who kept proving time and time again that they don't understand what fans want and missing marks was able to cleanly break off and have Activision take the entire weight of their failures, only to be proven yet again that they are a company who doesn't understand what fans want and kept missing marks again.

It is so funny to me when people are like, "it's all these evil publishers!" But then when we have track records proving it isn't nobody wants to speak up about bungies complete fumbling of every ip they have ever touched. I am gonna put money on it that Bungie is probably need in Sonys shutdown crosshairs, with their abysmal numbers in marathon, and it's embarrassing handling of d2.

I remember people blaming activision for shit like paid single use colours, yet they did nothing to change that scheme when split from them. Their management is exactly the same as activision.

They only needed to take points from warframe to make a successful game. Nothing else.

The Halo 3 release was the greatest event in gaming history. And look what has happened to the franchise since. Sometimes it's better to just let something you love die.

I imagine the IP will be sold, I just hope not to EA.

How is it crazy? They haven't made a good game in 14 years, and we were still years away from another ME game. They were bleeding money and honestly its amazing that they were around this long.

Has potential really isn't how I'd put it anymore to be honest. I loved Bioware, I grew up playing their games and they were for the longest time the big name in RPGs

But that was near it's end during the early xbox 360/ps3 days. After ME1/DA:O Bioware had never once had a release that was universally well received or didn't have some major controversy around it. Even their successful games around this time all had some problem.

After ME3 their releases were all poorly received (and by that point were already trending downwards with things like DA2's asset reuse and chatacter assassination of anders, and the infamous RGB ending of ME3) and ME3 is nearly 15 years old.

15 years of failed games after that and my only surprise is that they lasted this long
