Something strange about the conservative candidate for Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows

Post image
176 Upvotes

A friend was looking up info on her candidates and found that the conservative candidate in Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows appears to have an extensive history of being sued by lenders and insurance companies. I think this is pretty alarming for someone running on fiscal responsibility. Does anyone know what this is about?

Best preschool in Maple Ridge? Looking for recommendations

Hi everyone

I am looking for recommendations for a good preschool in Maple Ridge for my daughter who will be turning 3 next year.

I am looking for a proper preschool program (not daycare) ideally one that focuses on early learning, social skills and preparing kids for kindergarten.

Would love to hear from parents whose kids have attended preschools in the area. Which ones would you recommend and what did you like or dislike about them?

Thanks in advance!

Ridge Meadows Chamber MLA Candidate Questionnaire

It looks like there will not be any debates or all candidates forums before election day.

Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce has published their candidate questionnaires for both Maple Ridge East and Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows.

Maple Ridge East: https://www.ridgemeadowschamber.com/2026-provincial-election/maple-ridge-east

Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows: https://www.ridgemeadowschamber.com/2026-provincial-election/pitt-meadows-maple-ridge

Is anyone aware of any other questionnaires or resources to learn more about the candidates?

Looking for a thorough house cleaner

I’m looking for someone to come in to my 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment every other week for up to 3 hours each visit to provide thorough house cleaning. Located in Maple Ridge. Home has a friendly medium sized dog who can be put in another room during cleaning if requested. Must have strong attention to detail and be physically able to complete the job. If you, or someone you know is interested, please DM me or if you have a suggestion on how/where to find someone let me know. Thanks in advance!

Reminder to do your research before voting. Some of your MLAs voted to repeal our human rights charter and Mok is one of them.

Just wanted to share a comment someone put together in another sub that I felt needed more attention and a bigger reach. Especially when reading one of our candidates had attempted to vote yes on repealing our basic human rights this year and I bet the majority of us had no clue. While mok was never getting my vote, I wanted to share incase others weren't aware.

Renters Union!

I’ve had a bit of a crash course in Maple Ridge politics over the recent municipal election. I was very disappointed that there was no all candidates meeting organized for the Town Centre area. I learned that all candidates meetings were/are organized by volunteers of various organizations: home owner’s associations or neighbourhood groups mostly I believe. But they could have been meetings organized by the Chamber of Commerce, downtown business improvement association, etc..

In light of this information I thought perhaps a renters union would be an idea to explore. I’m not a business. I rent in the Town Centre neighbourhood. I’m concerned that renters are being displaced by gentrification and I think we need more progressive organizing to put pressure on our city council to protect this vulnerable population in our communities. This is just a seed of thought; I haven’t dug into further reading but I did find a resource page on the Vancouver Tenants Union website.

Over 30 homeowners suing Epic Homes over flooding basements. Will the new Maple Ridge council act?

Why this matters to all of Maple Ridge: when this land was subdivided, the City required covenants on title covering the geotechnical design and the stormwater system. The City is the party those covenants were made with. It has leverage no homeowner has.

So, to the newly elected council, many of whom approved this development:

Did the City ever check this neighbourhood was built to the covenants it required?

Will you check now?

Will you put real pressure on Epic Homes to deliver a lasting fix?

Or are 30 families expected to sort it out in court while living with mould?

Who wants to bet on how long it takes Andrew Laity to be censured by Council or go on a leave of absence and milk 70k a year from us for the next 4 years?

Assent vote results: Misinformation & Personal feelings being phrased as facts

I'm seeing many people voicing their opinion on how they are upset with the results of the Assent Vote.

This in itself is fine and totally normal behaviour, but the issue lies within what is being posted.

I'm seeing a lot of false information being shared, and it all seems to be based on false information, confusion and/or lack of understanding on what we were voting on, or simply sharing their own personal opinion on the future phrased as if it were a definitive fact of what will happen next.

So I'm hoping this post will help some people in understanding what the results DO NOT MEAN:

  1. That residents will now have to foot a 393 million dollar bill through increase in taxes

  2. That the concept of upgrading facilities is now abandoned and that there will be no change

  3. That the funds borrowed would have been a general pool of money useable for whatever projects the city felt like.

  4. That there is no longer a possibility of borrowing money from the government for facility upgrades

  5. That any other solution for facility upgrades are guaranteed to increase the residents cost compared to the proposed plans.

I'm open to responding to comments about these points, but I won't spend time on knee jerk reactions that aren't based in reality or don't have a basic understanding of how economics and urban planning work.

I’m feeling like a Democrat the day Donald Trump was elected right now.

How the fuck does Andrew Laity have more votes than half the ABMR slate?

The city is a lost cause. Can’t wait to see Chelsa and her insanity ruin this city while Mike Morden continues to pad his own wallet. Fuck man.

ETA: I care less about Kok getting in, I think he will be fine.. and more discouraged about the literal criminal, covidiots and DCC delayers that are getting back in.

Why did you stop going to your last hair salon / hairstylist?

Just looking for insights to what went wrong at a previous hair appointment that made you not go back? Was it the environment? The conversation? Schedule conflicts? Uncomfortable sinks?
What is something you wish a salon would do / have ?

Just traveled east on 128ave and passed “the patch” brewery.
BEWARE THERE IS A MOMMA BEAR WITH 2 CUBS in the area
Anyone around the area should be aware. Saw them emerging from a driveway off the main roadway there.

Thermostat swap

Hi all - I’m planning to swap an old thermostat in my townhouse for a smart one, no new wires or anything. Basic swap.

Does this require any permit or certified electrician?

Thank you in advance.
