Gravity is strong. These enormous masses will pull themselves together quick.

What I would give to be able to see how that all came together over that timespan in person. Have to imagine observing something as dramatic as this kind of planetary collision over just half a day or so would have been awe inspiring.

Just not from earth. The entire surface was molten with an atmosphere of gaseous rock within 3 hours.

Psh, my grandparents survived worse than that both ways to/from school!

And they were lucky!

Backwarks

Is that what you call it when a chocobo farts?

That's why you stay at a safe distance in the TARDIS.

I have a feeling the debris from the collision would be deadly from any vantage point where you could see it with the naked eye

Just slow down the video to watching it takes 15 hours. Sit and enjoy.

The resolution would be too low.

Someone on YouTube did it here. The CGI isn't quite as "realistic", but it's something, and honestly once everything is lava, it doesn't make much of a difference anyway.

There’s literally a live video of it here

Pop some tabs and watch the moon form from an interstellar collision. Sounds like a good time to me. I'll bring my own chair.

Well, gravity is weak but that's just me being pedantic.

•

u/Leather_Economics210 8h ago

Yeah super weak actually. Like whenever I lift something I am overcoming the gravity of the whole earth.

Alright Chadrick. Leave some pussy for the rest of us.

It's so fun to dunk on gravity like "you're not electromagnetism!!"

It will never not fuck with my head that every particle in the universe is gravitationally attracted to every other particle in the universe. I don't recall if that also somehow applies for light cones that don't overlap but yeah.

Except it's kinda not. One example: Gravitational waves traveling with light speed. So the expansion of the universe is causing gravitational waves to never arrive.

Gravity is strong

It’s literally called the “weak force”.
It does, however, work over vaaaast distances.

The ejecta formed a ring. Larger chunks fell first the moon was shit thrown far enough and had enough mass to remain and the dust eventually (years) was cleared.

Gravity is strong.

Gravity is the weakest of the four fundamental forces. It's incredibly weak by comparison. A tiny magnet can overcome the entire gravity of a planet, for example.

So what you are saying is that is is possible to survive

•

u/Trollimperator 3h ago

Its not. The moon would take 4 or 5 days in free fall to reach earth, would you stop its orbital speed.

~apes~ atoms together strong
