[Mike Atherton] James Anderson not to be offered new contract at Lancashire

Discussion Cricbuzz's Greatest Test all-rounder list
Edit- added their parameters and method of calculations
The shortlist * considering players with a double of 2000 runs and 100 wickets in Tests. * 36 players have achieved this to date. Of those, eliminated six who have crossed the threshold in their secondary discipline only because of their longevity. * The ones who average under 20 with the bat - Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, Stuart Broad, Harbhajan Singh and Tim Southee - and the only one with a 45-plus bowling average, Carl Hooper, have been discarded, narrowing it down to a list of 30.
Decoding the percentile calculation
- For the broader parameters, the percentile for each of the sub-categories is calculated, and then the mean of those gives us a final leaderboard with respect to all the players in the mentioned cut-off.
- For example, for volume, the first broad category, the mean percentiles of the total runs scored and wickets taken have been calculated with respect to all the 3281 Test cricketers to date.
- Sachin Tendulkar (15921) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800 wickets) top the respective charts. Kallis, who is the fourth-highest run-scorer in Tests (percentile: 83.47) and bagged 292 wickets (percentile: 36.5), tops the overall list here out of the 3281 players courtesy of his stellar double. By adding his two percentiles together and dividing by two, he comes out with a mean percentile of 59.99. This value ranks the highest among all 3281 players, and grants him a perfect score of 100.
- The calculations here are not based solely on ranks. It factors in the highest values for the players in that parameter and grants the percentiles relative to those values.
- The percentiles in parameters which feature just the 36 players grants a perfect 100 to the best in the set, and zero to the lowest one.
Table 1: All-rounder ranking parameters

Interview Age not a factor in Rohit-Virat's selection for ODI World Cup squad: BCCI president
BCCI president Mithun Manhas has said Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's selection for the 2027 ODI World Cup will depend on fitness and performance, not age. Manhas also highlighted the importance of senior players in supporting Shubman Gill's leadership as India prepare for the tournament.
In an interview with Sportstar, Manhas indicated that selection for the World Cup would depend on the two senior batters continuing to perform. The quadrennial tournament will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October and November next year.

Is Ajaz Patel best test non-Indian spinner of the 21st century in India?
He averages 22 with the ball across 9 innings and had a single innings 10 wicket haul, only achieved by 2 other players.
He was also a crucial piece in NZ's 3-0 victory in their tour of India, taking 15 wickets across that series. Can't think of any other side to sweep India in India either. It's not like this was a weak indian side either. They were unbeaten in test series played at home for 12 years prior to this NZ series loss.
Warne and Murali for comparison both averaged in the 40s with the ball in India.
To throw another couple of names, Nathan Lyon averaged 27 while Graem Swan averaged 29 in India.
I find this all quite interesting cause Ajaz Patel can't crack the test team in NZ, while these other players were all almost locks to be selected no matter the where they played. Just a thought I had and eager to hear everyones thoughts.

Cricket History Cricket fans, I'm trying to find footage of a very specific type of LBW dismissal in Test cricket.
Imagine a left-handed batter facing a right-arm fast bowler. The bowler delivers from over the wicket, and the ball initially appears to be moving away from the batter. It pitches around the off-stump line, but then deviates back towards the stumps. The batter commits to a forward defensive shot, expecting the ball to hold its line, but it beats the outside edge of his bat and strikes his back-leg pad — the left leg — right in front of the stumps, near leg stump. The ball would have gone on to hit the wicket, and the batter is given out LBW.
Has anyone seen a real Test-match dismissal like this? Please share the match, batter/bowler names, or a video clip!

Discussion Is Boland unique?
Scouring the records and there doesn’t seem to have been a player quite like Boland.
Boland’s taken 87 test wickets at 18.4 in 20 matches. Insane numbers, better average than Jasprit who’s the best of the generation (noted pitches in different countries etc, this is not comparing Boland to Jasprit!). Boland’s average has been between 16-18 for his test career.
And yet he can’t get into the test team? Stuck perpetually behind Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon. Has this ever happened before?
Lone Pakistani star of the recent England tour, Mohammed Abbas was dropped for quicker bowlers after 23 tests where he took 57 wickets @ 22.8. If it ended there he may have been similar, but he’s since been recalled and has now taken 131 wickets @ 22.7 and is very much first choice.
Duanne Olivier was stuck behind a barrage of great South African bowlers: Steyn, Morkel, Rabada, Philander, Ngidi. He got a chance with Ngidi’s injury vs Pakistan and was POTS. Despite that he wasn’t guaranteed a place in the team, and signed for Yorkshire making him ineligible for SA. So slightly different, and he ended his test career with 10 tests, 59 wickets @ 24 (FC record 578W @ 24).
Unsurprisingly something similar has happened to another Australian behind McGrath, Lee and Gillespie. Stuart Clark made an excellent start to his test career and after 10 tests had 51 wickets @ 19 - very similar to Boland! He still couldn’t get many games and a combination of selection and injuries meant he only played 24 tests, finishing his career with 94W @ 24. He wasn’t picked for the first 3 matches of the 2009 Ashes, and then was POTM in the 4th. The 5th would be his last test.
What about West Indies fast bowlers that couldn’t get into some of the best teams ever in the 80s and 90s? Wayne Daniel and Sylvester Clarke both had limited test careers, despite outstanding careers for Middlesex and Surrey.
Daniel only played 10 tests taking 36 wickets @ 25 (FC record 867W @ 22), whilst Clarke played only 11 tests taking 42 tickets @ 28 (FC record 942W @ 19). Worth noting Clarke’s career also ended early from joining the rebel Windies tour to apartheid SA.
Going further back, Jack Iverson averaged 15 in the 1950-51 ashes, and then never got picked again. He lost his confidence when batters attacked his mystery spin and his international career ended there.
Mike Proctor obviously comes up for insane low average and matches played due to SA ban.
What do you make of Boland’s position? If he had debuted at 25 would he be an all time great?
