Politics & Governance Am I the only one who spotted similarities here? Making dialogue with nobody vs debate with rock? Is this the sign that both of them may lose power?

Not to be outdone by the rest of Europe, bulgarains hit the streets again. Bring something warm, it's getting nippy out. What is your preferred drink on when out to protest the corruption in government?

Outdoors/Travel Planning a vacation to croatia/bosnia/montenegro, advice on transportation?

I'm planning a solo trip to see Dubrovnik, then Mostar and Kotor afterwards. I have never been to the Balkans, but I want to explore as much of the beautiful scenery as possible. Is this feasible for someone without a rental car who can rely on uber? Are the bus schedules difficult for foreigners to follow(in any region). Thank you for any and all advices!

Culture/Lifestyle How common is it in your country to come across homes where the father usually does the cooking on a daily basis ?

While it seems like a pretty trivial thing, it's not that common in my experience. I have come across many homes where the father "helps" out or cooks sometimes but it's quite rare to come across a home where he does in fact cook daily .

Culture/Traditional Cultural and historical meaning of the river Sava

To the ex-Yugoslavian countries along the Sava:
What does the Sava mean to you?
Do you have important historic or modern conections to the river as it used to be „the most important“ Yugoslav river but now is split between four countries.

Politics & Governance How do Greeks view Turkey’s international ambitions?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I sometimes get the impression that Greece views Turkey’s ambitions mainly through the lens of their historical rivalry, even though Ankara’s objectives extend far beyond this relationship.

Today, Turkey is seeking to strengthen its influence on the international stage through its growing defense industry, technological advancements, strategic geographical position, and expanding presence in Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Its ambition seems to be to establish itself as a major international player capable of competing with global powers, rather than simply focusing on its regional rivalry with Greece.

What I find interesting is that Greece seems to prioritize its alliances with outside powers, such as France, which sometimes pursue geopolitical interests that conflict with Turkey’s. I find it difficult to understand why Athens appears more focused on counterbalancing its neighbor’s rise rather than considering the opportunities that could come from having a regional power capable of influencing major international affairs.

Of course, I understand that both countries have their own national interests and longstanding disputes, particularly in the Aegean Sea and Cyprus. But given their geographical proximity, shared history, and cultural similarities, couldn’t a more influential Turkey also benefit Greece and our region?

Personally, if the roles were reversed, if Greece had the kind of international influence that Turkey is currently trying to develop while Turkey played a more secondary role, I would prefer my country to cooperate with Athens rather than constantly try to limit its rise. In my view, having a country from our region capable of standing up for its interests alongside the world’s major powers could also be seen as a success for the region as a whole.

So my question is particularly for Greeks: Do you think Greece sufficiently recognizes Turkey’s broader international ambitions beyond their historical rivalry? And could Turkey’s growing influence become an opportunity for cooperation rather than a source of division?

Miscellaneous Best country to immigrate to?

I've been living abroad in Asia for many years, owning and working with restaurants and gyms. I want to relocate to the Balkans. For me it is easy to go somewhere, but my partner has a much weaker passport and financial state, mostly because I support her, but because we aren't married, most places won't let me pledge support for her. What is the best/easiest country in the Balkans to be able to legally immigrate to and live long term? We are looking for a home, and I can promise your foodie and gym communities will like us.
