Assistance Looking for the guy I was a witness with for a car accident today at Croydon Park because you were cute.

Okay this is a long shot and pretty damn cringe, but this morning I was a witness for a car accident along with a random guy who I thought was really cute.

Obviously at the time I was focused on the accident (everyone was fine, it was minor) but I didn't feel like it was appropriate to flirt with him or ask him for his number, but as soon as I left I though damn, that guy was cute and I'll probably never see him again.

So here's my first reddit post, if he sees this and is single and thought I was cute too, please send me a DM. 😊

News Seven-storey tower to rise on King William Road - News

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Planning Minister Nick Champion has approved new planning rules for the inner-city dining and residential strip of King William Road in Unley that will allow a seven-storey building.

He today announced the King William Road North Code Amendment meant land on the corner of King William Road and Mary Street would be rezoned to allow for about 170 apartments and 16 townhouses.

Previous plans for a 10-storey building on the site have been reduced for the 1.4 hectares of land after community opposition.

Champion said heights of seven storeys with a 30-degree building envelope stepping development down towards neighbouring homes on the eastern boundary would be capped. Any higher limits would be considered as restricted development.

I could be wrong but I thought they couldn't build buildings like this because Unley (might have the suburb wrong) has those heritage character laws that prevent the construction of any modern esque buildings that don't suit the neighbourhood character.

Event/Activity Online Forum: No Empty Homes In A Housing Crisis!!

Post image
61 Upvotes

Thursday October 22, 6:30pm - 8pm (SA Time)

Across SA, tens of thousands of houses are vacant, simply because investors can get away with keeping them empty. We think this makes no sense, especially in the middle of a housing crisis – houses are for living in, not for hoarding!!

Join u/Purplepingers (Jordan Van Den Lamb) from u/shitrentals and the Renters and Housing Union, Chels Hood Withey from House You, and speakers from Anti-Poverty Network SA, as we discuss what Governments and Communities can do to go after empty houses, and make housing a right instead of a commodity.

Question Whatever happened to the Gang of 49?

Post image
134 Upvotes

Around 20 years ago every act of vandalism, arson, graffiti and petty crime was caused by the Gang of 49 according to the media narrative at the time. Forums and discussion boards were all blaming the 'weak courts' and lack of police for the unstoppable crime wave that was engulfing the Northern Subs. This highly organised, regimented gang of teenagers nearly bought Adelaide to its knees.. Apparently.

Friends who were in the police said it was just small groups of ragtag youths connected by family who enjoyed the media attention that were defacing bus stops and cars with their slogan. They weren't even that worried about them at the time. Until legend has it they slashed the tyres of some local crime boss's expensive car who put a 10k bounty on their heads, they suddenly went very quite.

They seemed to have been forgotten as quickly as they appeared.

Question How can tuna be labelled ā€œSashimi Gradeā€ but also say ā€œMust be cooked before consumptionā€?

Post image
75 Upvotes

Purchased this 500g pack of Thomas Cappo Seafoods tuna steaks from Foodland Newton in Adelaide, specifically to eat raw as sashimi.
The packaging prominently displays ā€œSashimi Gradeā€, which naturally suggests it’s suitable for raw consumption.
But look closely at the tiny writing underneath:
ā€œMust be cooked before consumption.ā€
Hang on, what?
Isn’t the whole point of sashimi-grade tuna that it’s suitable for eating raw?
I understand that ā€œsashimi gradeā€ isn’t a legally regulated classification in Australia, but surely advertising something as sashimi grade while simultaneously telling consumers they must cook it is misleading?
The cooking warning is so small compared to the sashimi-grade claim that I nearly missed it entirely (clearly grabbed it from the Foodland freezer just by spotting the ā€œSashimi Gradeā€ label.
Under Australian Consumer Law, fine print can’t simply contradict the overall impression created by prominent advertising.
I’m not suggesting there’s anything wrong with the tuna itself, but if it genuinely needs cooking, why advertise it as sashimi grade?
Both Thomas Cappo Seafoods and Foodland are well-known names in South Australia, so I’d expect clearer labelling than this.
Has anyone else purchased this product? Would you consider this misleading, or am I missing something?
Did you eat it raw and not die lol

Discussion Aggressively Courteous Driver

A massive thank you to the driver of a small ute as I was attempting to merge into walking pace traffic heading south on South Road, Melrose Park yesterday.

No longer a regular driver in urban traffic, I was delighted when the driver in question aggressively sounded their warning device and motioned with their arm for me to join the slow procession.

It restored my confidence in the good drivers of Adelaide.

Is it my imagination, or has Adelaide's traffic recently calmed somewhat?

Question All you can eat buffet restaurant recommendations?

Google Is useless for this it keeps showing places I know aren’t buffets and even just straight up fast food. So I’m looking for suggestions from actual people.

We just found out The Watermark is temporarily closed, so this is why.

Preferably in the northern suburbs or northern part of Adelaide.

Discussion Our PM tried an illegal rent hike over the phone

**Edit: PM = Property Manager. Not Albo, haha. **

Rent went up in July this year. Today the PM calls (not an email, a phone call) offering a "renewal" at $30 more a week for a fixed lease, or $40 more if we go periodic.

Only 6 months after the last increase. Pretty sure they were just hoping we wouldn't know the law.

For anyone in SA: rent can only go up once every 12 months, counted from the last increase. Signing a new lease doesn't reset the clock, switching to periodic doesn't either, and it doesn't count even if you agree to it. It's in the Residential Tenancies Act, s55 (thanks Claude).

We pushed back and he folded straight away. Rent stays the same.

Funny how they've emailed everything for years, but this one came as a quiet phone call. Absolute clowns.

Check your dates before you sign anything, people. No wonder nobody likes these people.

Question Where to buy cotton sarongs

• Upvotes

Last time I bought one (years ago) you could buy them at many small alternative clothing shops. They don’t seem to exist anymore. I’ve searched google and the only place that comes up is down at Semaphore, which is miles from me. Everything else is online and the postage is as much as a sarong. Anyone know anywhere reasonably central that sells them?

Question Looking for recommendations for best dumplings in Adelaide?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I make my own dumplings usually but I’d love to know any places that do dumplings with quality and fresh ingredients? I know several restaurants make them in town but I’m talking somewhere you can stop for lunch and grab something that’s takeaway friendly or even a cafe? I’ve tried one spot at the food court in China town but unfortunately the quality was insane… (and not in a good way!)

Any recommendations for great spots for dumplings would be warmly welcomed!! ā™„ļøā™„ļø

Thanks in advance

Question Any suggestions where to do some remote work outdoors?

• Upvotes

I've taken a side job which is fully remote and laptop based and I'm looking for some suggestions where I could go to do this work as I don't have a home office and the libraries seem quite busy

Power not needed as I have an ecoflow powerstation for camping already so all the electric I'd ever need.

Ideally somewhere I can park up. The cars big enough to sit on the tailgate comfortably and use the laptop in the back.

Some suggestions I've had already:

- drive on beach (I guess Moana?)

- the zoo (seems a bit too busy though unless there's quiet corners)

- Belair carpark by the railway station.

Any other thoughts?

Question Surf trip

Hi,

I’m planning on doing a trip/surf trip to Adelaide from Melbourne during Christmas. I have like 4/5 days off including the actual Christmas Day.

Any recommendations regarding spots for an intermediate surfer? (Currently still improving consistency on a proper cut back and trying to pull off some snaps).

I have a Mitsubishi Pajero equipped with a rooftop tent and a lot of camping stuff so I was thinking about camping for a few days as well.

Thanks for your help!!

PS: could you also advise the shark status? 😬

Discussion Tusmore Wading Pool still closed with no reopening date. I made a page to see how many families miss it

Hey all.

A week or so ago I noticed Council had posted that the Tusmore Wading Pool is still closed because of lifting tiles, just before it would normally reopen (usually around the end of October).

If you're familiar with it, it's the free, shaded wading pool for little ones in Tusmore Park. Last summer it was closed a number of times because of the same issue, and in March Council ended the season early to fix the tiles properly over winter. There's still no reopening date yet.

I've raised it with Council, and I'm not trying to have a go at anyone. Fixing it properly is the right call. But it potentially means another summer without it for a lot of families, and the nearest alternative (the George Bolton toddler pool) costs $9.50 per adult every visit, which adds up quickly if you used to just turn up a few times a week.

So I put together a simple page that collects what Council has posted publicly (every fact links back to Council's own posts), along with one idea: free George Bolton entry for one adult with an under-5 while Tusmore is closed.

If you use the pool, or know families who do, you can add yourself to the count. It only asks for your suburb and number of little ones, no names or emails.

https://tusmorepool.pages.dev/

Also keen to hear about any other free splash spots in the area for toddlers that I've missed. Any other ideas are welcome too, and I can add them to the page.

Mods - If this is against the rules, sorry - just trying to gather some support, happy to delete the post if it isn't appropriate.

Question 2 hour mandatory delay for alcohol deliveries.

Thumbnail legislation.sa.gov.au
179 Upvotes

On the 15th of September, a bill was passed through SA government, that adds a mandatory 2 hour waiting period to alcohol delivery orders, in the name of domestic and family violence.

As a courier, who gets occasional alcohol deliveries, we were *already* checking sobriety and having to log details via photographing ID checks, and checking it against a database, more vetting then any drive through bottle shop ever did.

The only thing I see an additional 2 hours doing, is giving intoxicated individuals **even more** reason to drive themselves while intoxicated to a bottle shop, else stockpiling alcohol at home, meaning more avenues for excessive drinking.

Thoughts?

Question CD PRINTING

Hi all,

I was wanting to make a physical mix tape as a gift. I can burn the CD and stuff at home so that's no issue. But was looking for somewhere to print my design onto it as I don't have a printer with CD capabilities. I did some research and I know there are companies that can do it for you but I only want to make one so I don't think I fit the criteria there. Help!
