It’s not even de facto. When you live under a regime that is literally stripping the entire economy to build super weapons to commit planet wide genocide, no matter what the rebels do it will be ethically justifiable even when Disney try to muddy the waters.

But they are defacto good guys, even if some rebel cells are a bit extreme the over all rebellion are good people
