In 40k, the T'au are an authoritarian expansionist caste-based society that seeks to conquer the galaxy because of manifest destiny. they use propaganda and societal conditioning to declaw rebel groups and re-educate political dissidents, all while claiming it is for the "greater good".

they are considered one of the better factions because they say "join us or die", whereas almost all the other factions just say "die".

I said this elsewhere, but the Tau are essentially Star Trek villains dropped into the hellscape that is 40k and by comparison seem decent.

The Borg: "We are the Borg. Resistance is Futile. Prepare to be assimilated!"

Hive World Peasants: "Hurray!"

Pretty sure that's just the Mechanicus.

I mean, that is a legitimate rise in the standard of living. Your less of a slave, a full stomach and you have a chance at the dream paradise when you sleep. Overall for the average imperial its an improvement

Right up until they see that the machinery controls them and it's now "by the Throne, it's the Men of Iron come again!"

I saw someone say “The federation from Star Trek would pulverize the imperium but stop at the tau because they’re basically perfect for being a reoccurring villain faction”

yeah, they're pretty much just the dominion if the founders weren't shapeshifters and were blue

There’s a water caste out there who was born to engage in battles of wit against Captain Picard but unfortunately they were born in the 40k universe.

I do like listening to people talk about the mind controlling mass murderers being the only "good guys" in 40k.

The mind control aspect is iffy, the lore on it keeps changing. Sometimes the ethereals are just super charismatic, sometimes they have giga-pheremones, and sometimes they're hinted to be mildly psychic.

Plus the Imperium slaughters aliens by the billion for merely existing.

Well, there are Exodites who are basically elven Amish that just want to be left alone.

If I was forced to pick a "good guys" in 40k, they'd be near the top.

They do give better standards of living, but yea they only are a little bit better then everyone else

By far the "nicest" in a sense but no where near being the Good guys
