Hated Tropes Things meant to be progressive just end up being incredibly offensive

What If - In one of the comics Miles becomes Thor, and it's full of stereotypes about black people such as the Mjolnir having graffiti on it and the infamous "by Odin's fade"

Emilia Perez - Everything about the movie

AND he has a beard. So why wouldn't they just keep the normal "By Odin's beard" line???

i think the writer was paid per racist stereotype. like he had random shoes hanging on wires. kept confusing things seen in poor urban areas with black culture.

"We made a progressive comic everyone! Black Batman is hanging from trees, Black Killer Croc is baiting crocodiles, Black Moon Knight picks the cotton for his suit himself and we also made Black Iron man look like he's wearing blackface but he also doesn't look like Robert Downey JR in Tropic Thunder! Surely everyone will love that!"

Wait wait wait. I thought Killer Croc was and is black canonically.

Oh... OK idk I don't really read comics. I realize that subconsciously I had him pegged as "green" which in retrospect wasn't all that logical...

You are biased against green people arent you? You wouldnt even pick up the grinch in your taxi.

To be fair, having a guy who was born as just some crocodile guy isn't too far fetched for comics, but he's from the "every character is from super science gone wrong!" era of comics

Again not born as crocodile but changes over time to become more Croc like. Trying to reverse it always ending up in a more feral appearance and mental state.

i think the writer was paid per racist stereotype.

I understand that this is well into "deranged conspiracy theory" territory, but I occasionally think that comic writers back then were either ragebaiters or approved by ragebaiters hoping to get some cheap publicity when people brought it up to tear it to shreds.

??? that's literally the opposite of what I posted. the writer kept confusing cliches seen in poor urban areas as though they were part of black culture.

It could have been worse... "By Odin's chains!"

I'm not even sure if that's worse, now that I think about it.

u/Very_Tricky_Cat 12h ago

Time to snatch that chain, twin. -Double Lokki Lok

I hadn't read this comic because... well... all of it. Holy shit what a disasterpiece. There is no way this was not intentional.
