Hated Tropes Things meant to be progressive just end up being incredibly offensive

What If - In one of the comics Miles becomes Thor, and it's full of stereotypes about black people such as the Mjolnir having graffiti on it and the infamous "by Odin's fade"

Emilia Perez - Everything about the movie

...

Okay, just Wikipedia'd their names. You guys ready?

Screentime, Snowflake, Safespace, B-Negative and Trailblazer.

I swear I am not making that up; that's their names.

These are names a Republican cartoonist on Twitter would decide are a little "on the nose".

Trailblazer isn’t too bad, at least.

I don’t see the problem with Trailblazer, sounds cool imo

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of characters whose power is basically just plot convenience.

I have absolutely no clue what Trailblazer does, I just like the name

Iirc, she could pull whatever item she needed in a situation out of her backpack.

that could be fun if she couldn't choose what the item is. like, if the backpack decides that the solution to her problem is post-its and then she has to figure out what the hell to do with them. if it's just "I wish I had a gun right now" and it spits out a gun, then yeah that's lame

So basically just Ladybug from Miraculous?

… I fail to see how that relates to her name but I can see how you’d dislike the power

it's a woman whose power is breaking glass ceilings.

My favorite model of Chevy

People said it was too stereotypical for a native American hero, but her main issues were definitely looking like Dora and saying that her backpack came from god "but not the one you're thinking"

My first thought was it might be a reference to the Trail of Tears given how out of touch the rest of the characters are

Snowflake could work if it wasn’t tied to that concept.

I quite like Safespace as a name, and think it would work for a paladin-type defensive character.

Just... Not the version they proposed. Because that was bad.

i can see the idea behind it working, but the word safespace is just not an option anymore. i'm sure there is a name that can convey the same meaning without making people cringe because of politics.

I've seen a fanart where snowflake and safespace are renamed to Hail and Haven

yeah that's pretty much perfect

Safe space is the only truly unusable name for those, Snowflake isn’t great but could be like a snow character I guess otherwise they could be used

Poor Trailblazer

That’s literally the gag. It was a humor miniseries by one of the Colbert Report writers. It was more of that, making fun of what conservatives say everything is.

Looked into it, Kibblesmith only wrote for the Late Show, not Colbert Report, fwiw. However, his history does fall into what you're talking about. He was a founding editor for Clickhole, the Onion's Buzzfeed parody, he ran a "GOP Teens" parody account on Twitter, and wrote a picture book about a black gay Santa Claus seemingly mostly for subversiveness' sake.

Well, I shall take up your banner, good Medici, and whenever I see it come up, I will note that it's from a founding editor of Clickhole, so the blatant absurdity is likely at the least not unthinking.
