Hot Take Cops on 50 in Glenbrook/New ALPR

Bear with me here. The police activity today in the Glenbrook area is out of control. They are hiding at the post office taking speeds. There were no workers present - just miles of cones.

These cops are usually sassy at best, but honestly this seems like a new low. (I did not get a ticket by the way it was just the police presence that set me off this morning.)

Additionally yesterday I notice workers erecting a new license plate reader at Zephyr Cove. How is it we are okay with this increasingly authoritarian state imposing itself on the community?

Question Bears & vehicles

I travel out of my SUV around California and am getting a cabin in Tahoe for the week. I'm gonna remove all food and scented items from my car during my stay, but do I need to be worried that because I essentially live out of my SUV, there may be old crumbs or spilled toothpaste in places that may attract a bear? I KNOW there are crumbs in places I cannot reach, and I know bears are in hyperphagia now. I know I'm paranoid, but this SUV is basically my home, and if a bear destroyed it I'd be devastated. I have friends whose cars have been broken into here, but they left the odd granola bar and such. So I wasn't sure about residual smells or crumbs... Thanks

Question Best Engagement Spot near The Edgewood Hotel!

Hi! I was wondering if you guys had any input on a really great engagement spot near The Edgewood Hotel. It needs to be private!

We're driving from Incline Village to have dinner at The Bistro at Edgewood next week, and I'll be proposing prior to that. If there's anywhere along the way as well that has a really great view of the lake that's very scenic and great for pictures that would work too! I plan on proposing around sunset time. Really appreciate any of your help!

Question Looking for Roaming Dessert Cart

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello! I am hosting an event and looking for a roaming dessert service (cannolis, churros, ice cream sundaes in that order of preference). Does anyone know if there’s a vendor in the Reno/ Tahoe area that offers this service? Pic for context. I’ve searched high and low on Google and haven’t found much. Thanks!

Question Carlos and Tony Rodriguez from Fremont, CA

I was wondering if anyone knew these guys. They worked for me at the Fremont Brewing Company in Fremont CA in the 90s. I saw Tony once at a breakfast joint in downtown Truckee about 20 years ago. I loved these guys and want to see what they're up to. A longshot, I know, but I'm drunk and am having a memory episode.

If you live in the City of SLT and are concerned about the herbicide spray plan (which could begin as soon as October 2027), this video is for you. It gives a sense of where 10 of the 13 City Council candidates stand on the issue.

Trip Report Shout out to Le Bistro in Incline Village

My daughter had a wonderful birthday dinner and we enjoyed every bite. Delicious food, great service, perfect ambiance. Great memory for our family. We always forget about this place when making dinner plans because it seems like a special occasion-type restaurant, but the prices are comparable to more casual dinner restaurants and the food is 10x better.

Question Is Lake Tahoe worth visiting for a few hours from Reno if we have to Uber?

We’re staying in Reno and are thinking about taking a trip to Lake Tahoe for a few hours. We wouldn’t have a rental car, so we’d need to Uber there and back. We're thinking of going Thursday morning.

Is it worth the cost and hassle for a short visit? If so, which part of the lake would you recommend visiting? We’d love to see the beautiful scenery, take some pictures, and maybe grab something to eat without feeling rushed.

Also, how difficult is it to get an Uber back to Reno from Tahoe?

Would love any advice or recommendations. Thanks!

Question Dog friendly sledding / fun snowy areas near heavenly village or South lake Tahoe?

My family and I (parents, siblings, siblings’ friend, my boyfriend and I, and two dogs) are planning a trip in early December for a long weekend and just booked a hotel next to Heavenly Village! (hopefully it’ll snow but if not it’ll still be a fun trip)

I’ve stayed at Heavenly a couple times with my boyfriend’s family and it’s been amazing. It’s my family’s first time visiting tahoe in the winter and I really want them to have a great time.

I remember the village being super dog friendly so we’re looking forward to that. Many of the parks and sledding areas seem off limits to dogs (understandably so) and I was wondering if anyone knows of any dog friendly snowy play spots for the family? Our dogs would be on leashes of course! (Unless it’s a fenced in dog-specific park)

Our dogs are very friendly, slightly judgy corgis and have never seen snow before, so we’re super excited to introduce it to them :)

So yeah if anyone has any advice or experiences they’d like to share I’d love to hear it!

Edit- Why are my post and replies getting downvoted? Is there something wrong with what I’m asking? :(

Pic/Video Sugar Bowl!

Just finished this map of Sugar Bowl for a fellow redditor, I am slowly completing my Tahoe area catalog. This was an interesting layout to make, with all of the rock faces, fairly sparse tree cover and the old train tunnel. There are so many rock faces I had to come up with a semi-automatic way to generate them based on convexity and slope.

19" square, 3D printed in 4 tiles on a Prusa XL 5T. Layout generated in QGIS using USGS 1-meter DEM, and OSM data for some features, but a lot of stuff is redrawn for detail and accuracy.

Question DIY Terrain parks in back country areas

Are there any popular backcountry areas where people build DIY terrain parks for skiing/snowboarding? I just moved to the area from Colorado. In Summit county there was a place called "The Lovezone" where locals would build a rail park in the forest near the road. I'm wondering if there's such a place in Tahoe that I could visit for a rail session. I'm more than happy to bring my shovel and help build up the jumps.

Question Tahoe Donner Ski Resort kids group ski experience?

Leaning towards Tahoe donner ski to book for my kids group ski lessons (4 and 8).

Can anyone provide their experience?

Is it easy? Pleasant? Kids friendly? Staff help the little ones gear up? Do they have bright color bibs to easily identify the kids? Etc.

The only experience we have is Mr. rose and we liked it a lot. So many staff helping the kids gear up. Very patient for every kid. Friendly and cheerful. Have a car? That drives the kids after they gear up to the kids magic carpet. Each group have different color bibs so it was easy to figure out which group our kids were in. Etc.

But I heard good things about Tahoe donner and we are coming from the west side instead of the east side this time.

Thanks!

Lost/Found Grocery Outlet Missed Connection

Ok this is a long shot but I figure it's better than a Craigslist missed connection. Two weeks ago (Wednesday) I was in Grocery Outlet in South Lake and chatted with a cute tall guy about gluten free/ vegetarian food options, but I had to leave before we could talk more. He had brown hair, was really dirty and was wearing a green shirt from a tiling or paving company I think. We didn't talk that much but I've been romanticizing the moment in retrospect and hoping to run into him again at GrocOut. If it was you will you DM me? Tell me what aisle of the store we were standing in :)

Edit: Thanks for the support, y'all, looks like I'll just have to keep grocery shopping
