I cook every meal at home expect for pizza Friday night and we go out to eat Sundays. Other than that we don't eat fast food. We eat good too. Cooking your own meals is superior in every way. Just wish inflation would calm down at the grocery store
Ya i mean shit is expensive but I get a feeling a lot of people complaining right now aren't even cooking.
I can go buy a whole fish for like $5, steam it, cook up some veggies for like $3, make some rice which is basically pennies, and toss a few panko shrimp from costco in the airfyer.
Whole meal for 2 people is like $14 and it's delicious and filling.
Yeah. Standard weeknight for us is some kind of chicken plus veggies and a nice sauce.
We change up those things a bunch, but it's quick/easy and cheap.. the two of us are fed for like 8 bucks a meal. We get burgers from a local place that's super nice once a week on movie night and I tend to cook more complex/interesting things on the weekend when I have the time.
I think so many people just straight up don't cook, or their idea of "cooking" is the frozen meals section at the supermarket which is generally still far from good value.
Having a partner makes things easier through division of labor. Some people work 12 hours a day. Some people don’t cook.
It sounds like you enjoy cooking. Now imagine something you dislike doing that you have to do anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours every day or you get price gouged by the richest people just to meet your needs.
God the excuses never stop. Cooking when single is beyond easy, you can knock out a week of meals in a couple hours max. There might be a learning curve if you literally cannot cook but just want some YouTube videos and you’ll be fine.
As for enjoyment, not really.. I don’t mind it but I have tons of things I’d prefer to be doing with my time. Turns out being a functional adult requires you to spent some time doing things you might otherwise not want to do.
Basically.. grow up. Or don’t and keep wasting money on takeaway food that costs a fortune… and if can afford that and want to spend your cash that way, have at it. Just don’t complain about it.
Now work twelve hours a day and make that meal every night.
Cooking isn’t always viable and fast food fed the Roman Empire for a reason.
People’s circumstances and upbringings greatly affect how much they can actually do on a day to day basis. When you’re stressed out 24/7 and cooking is a stressful activity for you then it becomes that much harder to do.
The world isn’t in the shitter because the common worker doesn’t make the most economically viable choices all the time.
My partner and I are mostly living off beans and lentils we bought in bulk when things were slightly cheaper. We only really need to buy eggs, milk, tofu, and fresh veggies (with some meat thrown in when it’s on sale). It’s saved us a buttload, and we’ve never pooped so good in all our lives 😂
I moved to the big city six months ago and switched to 'weekday vegetarian' Sun-Thurs -- beans, tofu, salads. A little bit of meat on Fri/Sat bought via Too Good To Go app -- the last purchase I made was approx $81 of meat for $12 (8 bavettes, 2 packs of lamb chops, salmon steak, pack of bacon).
I'm walking a lot more (sold my car) and I feel leaner but haven't seem to loss much weight yet. I'll persist.
True. I started in Trump's first term. Shocking how much money I saved during Biden's term. Which is great, now that Trump is destroying everything, I am not really being affected.
"Nobody has ever seen anything like it. I made America healthier, folks, and let me tell you—America has never, ever been healthier than it is right now. Under my administration, we achieved the greatest, most beautiful health numbers this country has ever seen. The fake news won't tell you that, but everyone knows it."
I used to go out with my gf, now wife, 3-4 nights a week or order takeout. Now we have a kid and presenting would be so much easier, but we cook 6 nights a week and usually 7 unless we have a pizza night like our families used to. Thanks Trump, for one thing I guess. Fuckface
A slab of red meat, potatoes and gravy isn't going to do much better. But at least you'll enjoy it more than a tiny strip of heat-pressed rat with a side of fries.
And honestly, it isn't even really fast to pick up anymore. Especially their new(-ish, been a few years) quarter pounders, which outside of peak hours, they are cooking to order, which means they pull you forward and you have to wait for them to cook it entirely.
You might as well just go to a restaurant. Most of them you can be in and out in only about 15 minutes more than it takes to go through McDonalds, but for way better value and quality.
I mean, the chicken can take a while cooked to order, but burgers are already halfway done by the time you've paid. They don't take long at all on a grill.
I haven't bought anything from them in several years now, but when I still did, I'd usually get pulled and have a wait of about 5 minutes or so AFTER I was asked to pull forward at the window.
It was a sample size of a single location, so not sure if that is average, longer or shorter than other places. But it still usually takes 10-15 minutes to get through the drivethru unless they are absolutely dead.
At a sit-down restaurant, if they are moving well and you are a quick eater, you can be in and out in 30 minutes.
I just eat Braums. It’s better quality and cheaper than McDonald’s. I think a large meal with a burger, fries, drink and also a double dip strawberry sundae is like $14-$15 where I’m at. Still pricy but way better than McDonald’s and it’s all fresh ingredients unlike whatever McDonald’s is using.
If I am eating a fast food burger for me its Culvers. Half the time I even just get the kids meal and its a single patty smash burger with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and onions, small fries, small drink and a single scoop of flavor of the day ice cream all for $7. Plenty to eat, doesn't taste like something from a vending machine and super cheap.
Do it. I'm a trucker and get around lots and tried many things. Culver’s is top notch as far as fast food goes and even holds up against actual restaurants.
Tbh I’ve just given up on fast food unless there’s a really good deal. If I want a cheat meal I’ll just go to the grocery store and get myself something from the frozen section. I don’t get herded like cattle and I can have it whenever I want
I mean, there are still ways to eat it that aren’t too bad on the wallet. In n out is relatively inexpensive, and the dollar menus generally aren’t bad.
That being said, conventional “fast food” realized it captured the market like 15 years ago and has been steadily jacking up prices while lowering quality to the point where the label is no longer appropriate.

the only thing fast about fast food anymore is how quickly it drains your wallet.
