On the contrary, they do vote with their wallets, and the overwhelming number of wallets in the market vote for more features, more flashy stuff, and more automation.
I don't think you understand what "voting with your wallet" means in this context. I don't really care to argue with you, but that is not what you meant if you think people do want basic no frills vehicles. They clearly do not want basic, no-frills, vehicles because they do not buy them and "vote with their wallet" by buying significantly more fully loaded vehicles pretty much across the board, and across all price ranges and income levels.
She could buy an EV with an engine that lasts 200-400k miles and batteries /electronics rated for 15 years, but she probably thinks that shit is "woke". Enjoy your quarterly oil changes and transmissions going to shit then, lady.
Yes but the problem is this is they want new cars with all that shit, but also pretend they don't to farm internet points. The used market is FLOOOODED with cars without those features for sub 5k in great condition, my local mechanic said no one wants those cars when he offers them, people like to bitch about their tech and say "well I still want self driving" when pressed on the matter.
Seriously, most of these people would recoil in horror if they had to drive what I used to drive when I was younger and broke. A $500 1984 Lincoln Town Car, a $1000 1995 Dodge Neon, and a $600 4 cylinder 1993 Mustang were my first vehicles when I was in my teens and 20s.
They all had no frills (well, the Town Car was top of the line for 1984, but in 2006 that was pretty frustratingly lame) and every single one of them was kept on the road because I could actually turn a wrench. These shitbox cars people claim to want don't sell because people don't actually want them. Try telling someone in 2026 that their car only has an AM/FM radio.
Buddy youre missing the point. Its getting to the point where people have no choice but to buy the expensive car thats gonna die at 70k miles. Do you know how many older reliable cars are still on the roads? And do you know how many have over 200k miles? That makes them less desirable for the average buyer. Not to mention youre getting screwed on the used car end too. I just had to pay pasocally full price for a Honda Civic that came out in 2012 with almost 150k on it. It was 12 thousand dollars bro. On fb marketplace three years ago i coulda gotten it for 3k max. But times are different now and its okay that you cant see it yet. But you will. We all will eventually. I just hope it wont be too late by the time we do
I didnt have a few thousand dollars lying around. I had to finance through a dealer. Most people dont even have a hundred dollars. I had enough for a down payment and even then i got lucky cause my grandmother out of the generosity of her heart gave me exactly enough to get my monthly payment down to a somewhat affordable place.
I bought a high mileage Model 3 for under $8k with over 200k miles. Battery is in great shape and the operating costs are a fraction of ICE. Used EVs are where the saving are at if you can plug them in at home or work.
Ill admit i shouldve shopped around more. I unfrotunately didnt have the time to do that and i had never bought a car before so i got slapped with every imaginable fee you can think of cause i didnt know better. My point is these used car seller companies are taking advantage of poor people
So, you don't know what you're doing due to inexperience, you didn't do any research, and you're broke to top it off. And you think you should chime in and give sage wisdom about these things?

Then stop buying new cars. That's it, it's that simple. If people didn't want them, they wouldn't spend money on them.
