It drives me nuts. As someone with disabilities, these are telling me that I’m less than, and only a perfect, self sacrificing angel could ever love me. It’s ridiculous and hurtful
I came here to say this. He is a person just like you. She isn’t doing him a favor, they chose each other. Please don’t ever express things like this to people directly. It really is insulting.
he's a person it's totally true but just like "us" is pushing it way beyond common sense. he does look weird and obviously i know he didn't ask for it but pretending it doesn't make a difference isn't realistic.
i'm glad he got lucky after such a poor start though.
Yeah every time I see shit like this it frustrates me. Disabled people are not a charity case to fall in love with and we shouldn't treat it as if they are.
Exactly! People think they’re being kind or compassionate when they phrase things this way and “celebrate” these types of stories, but really they’re just adding more to the message that it’s not normal to fancy or fall in love with a disabled person.
Tbf i thibk its less that shes a saint for loving someone with a disability and more so showing that having a disability does NOT mean no one will love you
It's not calling them Saint. It's about appreciating them for choosing character in the world where most of the people choose looks. Yeah it's not shocking but sadly many go for looks not character
It communicates that a disabled person is nothing but their disability, while we are just... people. Partners of disabled folks aren't heroes, and disabled people are much more than their disability! And we can love and be loved like anyone. It's like saying there's nothing more in you than, say, the color of your eyes. It doesn't define you, it's just A PART of you.

Just a thought: let's stop viewing anyone who choses a person with a disability as a saint, an angel or something
EDIT: thank you for the award!
