The man in the image is Joseph Williams, a resident of Chicago who was born with a rare congenital condition called otofacial syndrome, which left him without a lower jaw and chin.
The woman pictured is his wife, Vania Williams. The couple met in 2019 through a mutual acquaintance, quickly bonded over their shared faith and common interests, and ultimately tied the knot in 2020. Despite facing online skepticism and cruelty from internet trolls who accuse them of faking their relationship for clout, they frequently share their genuine relationship journey publicly
There's a lot of people around who assume any selfless, wholesome, or otherwise goodly action MUST in some way be related to self-aggrandizement and virtue signaling. I assume it's that crowd who assumes a woman couldn't possibly love a man without a jaw.
Bit harsh. I don't think most woman would do what Venessa has done, there mere fact this blew up shows that. So most people are probably just skeptical but some are expressing that scepticism with negative comments.
There's a difference between "most women wouldn't do what she did" and "no women would do what she did". This comment thread is discussing the people who claim the latter.
I follow a couple, Shane and Hannah Burcaw, he has SMA. They're constantly harassed over their relationship and get told it's just for Internet fame and not real. They call her a gold digger, say he's not a man, etc. Nevermind that she was the wealthy one in the relationship, he's probably one of the funniest people I've ever heard, and that they genuinely seem made for each other. They keep their relationship public as he was already an author/public speaker and opened a charity by the time they met, so they're constantly facing abuse on YouTube and Instagram. I really liked their book about interabled relationships!
When they film it and put it online is when it becomes clout chasing. In order for this to not be self aggrandizement they would have to be happily living their lives and someone else took the pictures and posted it.
i just assume it’s bullies (read: incels, sexists) who refuse to believe women can like another human if they’re not conventionally attractive or rich asf. when actual evidence shows itself they have to assume it’s clout chasing or a prank for their own sanity (otherwise they have to realize no one likes them bc they’re a terrible human n haven’t showered in months not bc they’re not celebrity-hot)
I live in NYC, and spend time regularly in Seattle and LA. The vast, vast majority of attractive women I see when I go out are with conventionally attractive men. Apparently the couple this story are about are Christian too which makes it even less relevant to most redditors.
Hot, non religious, put together women don't need to sacrifice on looks to find connection.
Oh thanks for the source ! I'm a little tired of these images without reference, with just some text (and an image that can sometimes be AI or without any link).
Cynical but there can also be an element of "this guy will never cheat on me" or "I'm the best he's gonna get so I can get away with a lot" kinda thinking. I think if you're disabled or in a vulnerable population there's a lot of that to field when dating
