Trying to revive Google Glass — looking for contributors and an Explorer Edition 2!
Hey everyone!
I’m a software developer, and I’ve always liked the idea behind Google Glass.
I think the concept was ahead of its time, and it’s a shame that the original product never really got the chance to reach its full potential.
That’s why I’ve started Open My Glass, an open-source project with the goal of bringing Google Glass back to life and exploring what we can still do with this hardware today.

The problem
Unfortunately, I don’t currently own a pair of Google Glass. I’m based in Europe, where finding a working unit at a reasonable price is surprisingly difficult.
Importing one can also make the whole thing quite expensive.
For the initial development, I’m particularly interested in the Google Glass Explorer Edition 2 (XE-C).
From a kernel development perspective, it seems like a more approachable starting point, which should make it easier to investigate the platform and get things moving.
I’m looking for help!
I’d love to hear from anyone in the community who might be interested in contributing to the project, especially people with experience in:
- Linux kernel development and embedded systems Android internals,
- bootloaders and low-level debugging Reverse engineering and hardware hacking
- Google Glass development or the original Glass platform
And if you happen to own a pair of Explorer Edition 2 glasses that you’re no longer using, I’d be very interested in buying them at a reasonable price.
I’m in Europe, so European sellers would be especially helpful, but I’m open to other options too.
Even if you don’t have hardware or aren’t able to contribute code, pointers to existing research, documentation, technical resources or other people working on similar projects would be greatly appreciated.
I’m curious to know: Is anyone here still interested in Google Glass, and would you be interested in helping bring it back?
Let’s see if we can give this little piece of tech history another shot! 👓
