Because of hate speech directed at trans, bi/pan, and curious redditors who post to r/gaybears, we have decided to change our community settings such that all comments will only publish after a mod reviews them.
We reported this harassment many times to reddit admin over the past two years, and they have either 1, told us the user behavior was within reddit's rules, ignoring their own rule #1, or 2, have ignored the reports, not replying at all.
Most recently, a user called a bicurious poster a "stra**ot" and bullied him into deleting his post. This is not acceptable behavior in our community, and this user was banned from r/gaybears and reported to reddit admin, who we expect will do nothing.
This user wasn't the first to bully questioning men on here. It seems every time someone curious posts here, someone gets on a high horse about how straight men don't belong here or accuses them of "invading" the community, as if bi/pan and curious men don't belong to it. This, and the daily transphobic comments and vote manipulation directed at trans men who post here and at the people who like them, and it's become too hard for us to track, especially with reddit admin refusing assistance.
If you're upset with this change, we feel you. It's a lot more work for us, too, and I encourage you to send a message to reddit admin or tag reddit on social media asking when they will take transphobic and biphobic harassment and bullying seriously.
If the trends reverse after this change, we will consider going back to open commenting.
