Announcement A note on scammers, impersonators, and public blacklists

Hey everyone,

I want to address a recent post I removed by u/NotSUPERita about creating a list of trusted artists and scammers, as well as the broader issue of bad actors on r/gamedevclassifieds.

First, I want to apologize to u/NotSUPERita. I understand why you were trying to help, and I do not think the idea came from a bad place. Scammers and impersonators are a real problem here, and it makes sense that people want better ways to protect themselves and others.

That said, I do not think a public or semi-public user-run blacklist is the right solution.

Any single person’s list of “good” and “bad” experiences is subjective. Even with good intentions, lists like that can be abused, misused, or based on misunderstandings. A false accusation could seriously harm an innocent artist, developer, or freelancer’s reputation and business. Once someone is publicly labeled a scammer, that damage is hard to undo.

This applies to moderators too. Even I am subject to bias, incomplete information, and my own interpretation of events. I cannot be judge, jury, and executioner over someone’s professional reputation, and I do not think anyone else should be put in that position either. That is the line I am trying to be careful with.

I know scammers are a problem, and I am aware that this subreddit has been affected by bad actors, impersonators, and people misrepresenting themselves or their work. But I have not yet found a solution that addresses those issues without also creating a serious risk of innocent people getting caught in the mix.

For now, the best advice is still to do your due diligence before working with someone:

  • Verify that their portfolio actually belongs to them
  • Ask for links to established accounts or websites
  • Check whether their email, Discord, ArtStation, GitHub, itch, LinkedIn, or other profiles line up
  • Be cautious with new accounts, vague portfolios, stolen-looking portfolios, or people who avoid verification
  • Use contracts, milestones, and payment methods that offer some protection
  • Do not rely only on someone’s Reddit username or a single message thread

I know that is not a perfect answer. It is a frustrating situation, and I understand why people want something stronger. But asking people to do their homework before hiring or accepting work is better than creating a system where someone’s business can be damaged because they were falsely added to a list.

If there is a better way to handle this that protects people from scammers without turning into public reputation policing or false callouts, I am open to hearing it. Any solution needs to be fair, evidence-based, and careful about the harm it could cause.

Edit: I forgot to add one more important point: any solution also cannot require a heavy amount of moderator time.

Running this job board is not a job. No one on the mod team has the time, or realistically should be expected to have the time, to manually verify users, assign trusted labels, maintain reputation lists, or act as an ongoing approval system for freelancers and clients.

That kind of system would create a lot of work, and it would also create a false sense of safety. Even with moderation, users would still need to verify who they are working with and make their own judgment before hiring, accepting work, or sending payment.

Community-Wide Alert: Do not engage with P1 GAMES (Formerly P1 VIRTUAL CIVILIZATION)

I'm truly getting tired of this nonsense u/RedEagle_MGN

Changing your organizations name doesn't stop people from reaching out to me with horror stories every few months.

What they want you to sign:

DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THESE PEOPLE, no matter what they call themselves. They exploit the inexperienced and naive, convincing you to sign away your rights to everything you create. Don’t fall for their lies. You do not need to join a volunteer group or give up ownership of your work to gain skills in the game industry. Learning on your own is far better than what P1 offers. If you want a real education, seek out accredited programs and courses instead.

Their latest tactic is using LinkedIn ads to lure victims. I’m unsure what it will take to stop this con artist, but I’ll do my part to be a thorn in their side. My goal is to protect people in this community from their schemes.

Spread the word, be safe.

PAID - 2D Art | Animation [PAID] Looking for a cute and cozy isometric artist for a "sticker scene" style game

Please DM me instead of leaving a comment.

Hi All,

I am working on a new cute and cozy game in the vain of the Sticker Scene style books, and I am looking for an artist that can help not only make the actual art, but help develop the style and look of the game.

I've already built a prototype that I am happy with, but it's using my own questionable art. So I'd like to take it to the next level and see if it's viable as an actual game.

Here is the book I'm referencing as I build the game. Not the style specifically, but the general layout, isometric view, the density of the stickers, and the amount of stickers and interactions. Little stories etc.

https://a.co/d/0ftJM09D (There are many out there obviously.)

So here is what I am looking for:

-An artist that can draw polished cute and cozy isometric scenes. Preferably with an interesting take on what cozy means

-A dense number of stickers that fit perfectly into those scenes (I can explain how the production art needs to be delivered)

-Some level of animating would be preferred as well but not mandatory.

-Absolutely no AI. I want real art and you might be asked to prove it's not AI.

-A big bonus will be someone that has made similar things before.

This is a paid commission that I would love to turn into a LOT of paid commissions or even a partnership. But first let's get one scene made and see how fun it is.

If you are interested, please send me a DM along any relevant portfolio pieces, a little bit about yourself, and your rates.

Thanks!

PAID - 2D Art | Animation [PAID] 2D top-down artist for a turn-based nation sim: city progression sets, military units + animations, trains and bridges (paid, quote your rate)

Hi all, I’m Robert from Circa Games, a two-person indie studio. We’re building NationBuilder ‘27, a turn-based nation-building sim set in the real world of 2026. You found a nation from scratch and govern it as the state across 75 years and four eras. The Steam page goes live at the end of this year; first playtest in February 2027.

The map is a flat top-down hex map with a realistic terrain surface and a dark, serious modern UI. No tilt, no isometric. I’m looking for an artist to produce the top-down sprite assets that sit on that map. Modern-day setting that matches our map design, grounded rather than cartoony.

Style references:

These are my roughs/placeholders. Don't laugh.
These are my roughs/placeholders. Don't laugh.

Scope

  1. Settlement progression art. Four tiers, each with its own district set: Settlement > Town > City > Metropolis. The idea is that a settlement visibly grows through these stages, so the four tiers need to read as one continuous place getting bigger, not four unrelated sprites. Roughly 3 district types per tier ([examples: residential, industrial, port, government, etc.]), estimated 12 pieces total.
  2. Military assets. Top-down unit sprites ([list: tanks, artillery, drones, fighters, bombers, missile launchers, air defense, etc.]), each with idle/move animation, plus a small set of explosion and impact effects. Estimated 17 units, 4 effects.
  3. Infrastructure. Bridges (road and rail, 2 variants) and trains (3 types), with looping movement animations for the trains.

Icons and all other UI are handled in-house, so this is purely the on-map art.

Technical

  • Engine: Electron + React (web stack).
  • Deliverables as PNG sprite sheets with frame data (JSON or similar), plus layered source files (PSD/Krita/Aseprite, whatever you work in).
  • Export static assets at 2x the target on-map size so they survive zoom. I’ll supply the hex dimensions, a map screenshot at working zoom, and the existing palette.
  • Animations as frame sequences: 12 fps for everything except explosions, and 24 fps for explosions.

Budget and terms

I’m posting mainly to understand who does this kind of work and what it costs, so please quote your rate (per asset, per set, or a project estimate) rather than me guessing. Happy to start with a paid test piece (one district tier or one unit) before committing to the full set.

Timeline: first batch (settlement tiers) wanted by 2/1/26, the rest by 4/1/26. Flexible if the fit is right.

To apply

Comment or DM with:

  • Portfolio, ideally with top-down or strategy-game work
  • Your rate and rough estimate for the scope above
  • Availability over the next 7 months

Thanks for reading. Our community is at r/NationBuilderGame if you want to see what the game looks like.

FOR HIRE - 3D Modeler | Animation Looking for a horror character 3D artist (realism) [PAID]

Post image
21 Upvotes

I'm looking to commission a realistic 3D character artist to create humanoid horror characters for my upcoming game.

I'm aiming for something inspired by the disturbing character designs seen in games like Outlast, but pushed further toward the more extreme and unsettling aesthetic of Silent Hill: Townfall. Ideally, something that falls somewhere between the two.

No rigging or animation is required, only the 3D character models.

I'm looking for an artist who would be available to collaborate starting in early 2027.

If you're interested, feel free to reach out with your portfolio and commission rates!

The uploaded picture is an early environment test because seeing the game itself to get the vibe makes it easier to explain.

PAID - 3D Modeler | Animation [Hiring] Looking for a 3D artist for early 2000s to 2010 style characters

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a 3D artist to create one or more character models in an early-to-late 2000s / early 2010s style, similar to the look of Dragon Age: Origins. The project is a 3D game made in Unity.

Ideally, the characters should have facial expressions, so the models need to be able to convey emotion.

This is open to everyone: professionals, students, and passionate hobbyists are all welcome. If you're interested, please share your portfolio and your rates (or your budget expectations, if you're a student or doing this for a passion project).

I really like getting to know the people I work with, so feel free to tell me a bit about yourself and your background in your reply. I always appreciate the work and creativity of artists, and I'm grateful to anyone who takes the time to reach out.

Thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you!

PAID - Musician [PAID] Looking for a musician / SFX artist for a sci-fi movement game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi! I've been developing a sci-fi movement game akin to asteroids, the main premise of the game is to catch and recycle space debris left after battles. It is very difficult to control and is fast paced since you have a limited time to do everything, so speed is the main goal.

I am in need of a musician to create at minimum 3 different tracks for the game, a main menu, a main game loop track, and a death track. I will pay you

Specifically I need someone who focuses on aggressive, fast, techno or electric music, similar to Blade, something upbeat, repetetive and fast. My game at most is like a quick 30 minute run so I want some music that reflects that.

Play the game yourself here: https://gh0st2779.itch.io/garbage-collector

I am also in need for a sound FX artist for UI audio and other miscellanious audios, if you are willing to do both they will be paid as seperate jobs.

I look forward to hearing from you!

The game will eventually be commercially released on steam.
My budget is around ~$500 but I am more than happy to negotiate

Thanks everyone for the respnses, now reviewing candidates! Goodluck to everyone!

PAID - 3D Modeler | Animation [PAID] 3D artist wanted: Soviet diesel locomotives for Railhead

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

Hi! I’m making Railhead, a co-op first-person railroad game set in a Soviet-inspired 1960s–80s world. You build your own railway across a procedurally generated map, connect towns and industries, haul freight and passengers, and keep your locomotives running. It’s multiplayer and approaching pre-alpha.

Initially, I’m looking for someone to replace my placeholder locomotive with a finished one.

You’d be a good fit if you love trains, have a portfolio (rail assets especially), are happy working from reference photos with light direction, and keep in touch as you go. If it goes well, there’s plenty more to model: rolling stock, cranes, industries.

To apply, send your portfolio below and I will reach out if interested!

PAID - 2D Art | Animation [PAID] Looking for a 2d Pixel art artist for a Bonsai farming game

Hi Y'all.

I'm currently working on Potbound, it's a Stardew inspired farming game where the focus is on to propagate, grow, style and maintain Bonsai, you start in your backyard and slowly grow into a full blown nursery.

I'm looking for a skilled artist that would like to do some work on occasion, I'm currently still deciding how much of the artwork I want to do myself. But since the currently AI generated logo is making me throw up in my mouth I would like to commission that work first. See attached pic...

I'm a little spooked out by the multiple posts from people claiming that they are scammed with AI generated assets, therefor I'll be only responding to artist with a proven track record on Reddit. I'm willing to pay market rate either per project or per hour, that's up to you.

Would love to see some portfolio's and find a skilled artist that would like to work on my game sometimes. Cheers!

EDIT: I clearly said I will be only responding to artist with a proven track record on reddit, not sure why y'all flooding my DM's with empty accounts but I will once again not respond.

EDIT 2: I'm currently in contact with 2 artists which I think is enough for now, thank you for the massive amount of replies but I can't comment on everyone. Cheers guys <3
