Video This is the largest single-building pig farm in the world. At 26 storeys high, it can slaughter 1.2 million pigs per year. It was built in Ezhou, China, to help the country's exploding demand for pork. Pork is China's most popular meat, with the country consuming nearly half of global pork demand.

You might finding making small changes to your diet slowly over time allows you to greatly reduce the amount of animal protein you consume. It's part flavor, part habit.

I did my part last night by eating cereal for dinner.

Me too, I ate chicken instead of pork. Surely they don’t kill chickens like this too?

gyphosate & GMO crops, brought to you by Monsanto (now Bayer)

Nearly impossible to avoid this now in the US food supply (maybe the World supply). Seeking out non-GMO and certified organic reduces your exposure.

Why in the world are you being downvoted for telling the truth?

hell yeah sounds delicious

I took a nutrition class and learned about the “flexitarian” diet where you essentially minimize intake of meat and processed food but not cutting out all together. Sounds silly but skipping meat 2-3 days per week and eating more grains, vegetables, fruit, and nuts makes a tremendous difference both to the environment and personal health as, aside from the obvious need for protein, beef is actually not that great for us.

We don't need 10 people who do it perfectly. 10 billion doing it half-assed is better.

u/Different_Wolf_764 Sep 08 '26

Luckily, a good chunk of the world's population is semi-vegetarian or traditionally eats much less meat than westerners do. Hindus being the most obvious but even east Asians tend to consume much less meat overall.

u/Afraid-Guidance8963 Sep 08 '26

As a vegetarian absolutely this! Don't expect everyone to give up meat but we eat more than we need and often more than is good for us and definitely more than is good for the environment or for the animals. If everyone reduced a little it would have much more effect than a few people like me giving up completely.

10 Billion doing it "perfectly" would cut 20% of our Greenhouse gas emissions.

This stat doesnt make sense. In what time frame? According to stanford, If everyone went vegan over the next 15 years and all other co2 emissions carried on as normal, it would cut co2 emissions by 68 percent by 2100. It would also account for half of the work of limiting global warming to 2 degrees above preindustrial pevels.

The quote is most likely a reference to how the top 1% of the richest people on earth pollutes millions of times more than the lower 50%.

Brother, it's a good week if I can afford to eat meat 3 days a week.

5

u/MrJigglyBrown Sep 08 '26

I’m there now because I grew up in a half-vegan household. Eating meat more than once or twice is week is uncommon (which is especially good because it’s pricy af). Truly the idea of having it every day is crazy to me now.

u/HerrSchnabeltier Sep 08 '26

Peoply vastly underestimate the protein from plant-sources.
I had some Tofu Curd Stripes yesterday with 25g protein per 100 grams, even some cheap protein bread has 21g per 100 grams of product.

These are certainly the more extreme examples, but it's all there. Some friggin Gladiators, whose whole existence was based on their physical and mental prowess, lived plant-based two thousand years ago, but Kevin McGymacks needs his red meat and eggs everyday, otherwise his body can't grow.
The industry's PR/Lobbying is quite good.

I love how all these vegans bring up how much protein all that shit-food has, but they always avoid mentioning the quality of the protein. A single "what about the individual amino acids?" question makes them squirm.

Not to mention the lower IQ caused by a vegan diet.

u/Veggies-are-okay Sep 08 '26

I agree but holy hell dude you don’t have to come out swinging like that.

Fact is most people don’t eat it not because they don’t choose to, but rather because they don’t know. Restrictive diets AT THE VERY LEAST get you learning about what is out there other than what culture shoves in your face. I’m no longer vegetarian, but doing it for a few years made me much more mindful of what I was consuming and the impacts it had on my body. I now acknowledge that my diet is harmful to the diet.

It’s just kinda hilarious how anti-intellectual you come off here. Yes amino complete proteins are a thing, and vegetarians should learn this stuff, but that really doesn’t say anything about the dieting practice. It’s literally so easy to do vegetarianism once you admit you are addicted to meat.

-4

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat Sep 08 '26

admit you are addicted to meat.

I wasn't talking about meat, Cleetus - is English not being taught in trailer park schools anymore? Who looks anti-intellectual now, boy? There are days when I don't eat meat, and I get my protein from things like egg whites or plain non-fat greek yogurt.

The topic was plant proteins, which are objectively shit. And the fact that malnourished vegans (like that guy) push them as if the raw "muh protein" numbers are the only thing that matters.

3

u/Veggies-are-okay Sep 08 '26

Dude addressed your ignorant and abrasive comment before you even wrote it. Given that you can make up those proteins by eating any carb, you’re still looking pretty stupid.

And awesome! Greek yogurt is a fantastic way to get protein, as is egg whites, and I’m glad that works for you! That doesn’t work for everyone though! So shut up about it unless you have something to add to the conversation!

Beef has quite a lot of nutritional value, but raising cows is also the most CO2 intensive form of farming we have. Contrast this with e.g. lentils, or many types of beans, which also are relatively high in protein and also fiber, and which are essentially carbon-neutral to farm.. On an environmental level, this should be a no-brainer. I haven't cut meat altogether, but reduced it to 2-3x per week instead (mostly chicken or fish).

2

u/Person0001 Sep 10 '26

I am vegan for 13-14 years and haven’t purchased or eaten any meat or animal products in that long. Wish other people stopped harming and killing animals too, we don’t have to eat them.

2

u/protocol21 Sep 08 '26

Agreed all round. I usually have meat at most twice per week and then only chicken breast. I probably have a hamburger once every two months or a pizza with bacon once a month. It's bonkers that daily meat intake is considered normal to some.

2

u/Whole-Application404 Sep 08 '26

You needed a class to realize, that you don´t have to eat meat every day? WTF is wrong with this world?

1

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat Sep 08 '26

the “flexitarian” diet where you essentially minimize intake of meat

It’s a slippery slope. I started by just ordering vegetarian dishes at restaurants when we’d go out to eat. Now it’s been 8 years since I’ve eaten meat. All the flavor is in the veggies anyway.

Just don’t look at it as a label and eat what makes you feel good and perform well. I can’t stand when lazy people try to label what I eat as a description of me as a person. We typically don’t have terminology for people who don’t do things.

Autoimmune disorders basically require a keto diet and many cannot process things outside of this diet if they have MCAS or mastocytosis.

13

u/rainbowplasmacannon Sep 08 '26

That’s completely incorrect.
First, there is no blanket medical requirement for a keto diet across autoimmune disorders.
Second, claiming that people with MCAS or mastocytosis "basically require" keto is actually backwards for many. A standard keto diet heavily relies on aged, cured, fermented, and high-histamine foods (like aged cheeses, certain meats, and avocados), which are notorious triggers that cause severe mast cell flare-ups for a lot of people with MCAS.

1

u/According_Nature_495 Sep 08 '26

I have autoimmune and do an all beef keto diet that is literally putting my condition into remission. Nothing else works like this.

3

u/iambecomesoil Sep 08 '26

Literally a thread saying doing something when and if you can is impactful. No one cares if you can't.

2

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat Sep 08 '26

I've never seen anyone on a keto diet who wasn't a fatass.

1

u/pukesonyourshoes Sep 08 '26

Huh? I have family who went on a keto diet and lost so much weight they had to stop. They still do it every so often if they've porked up a bit to get back down again. One got back into clothes she had worn as an 18.y.o.

2

u/PassengerClam Sep 08 '26

This has been the way for me. It’s really not hard to make incremental changes. Do a day here or there, learn a new recipe or two. If everyone did that it would make such a huge difference.

3

u/EquipmentAdorable982 Sep 08 '26

Anyone can stop eating meat from one day to the next.

The only thing that doesn't "allow" most people to go meatless is their lack of empathy for animals, the planet, or their own health.

1

u/ThirstyWolfSpider Sep 08 '26

Don't forget "finding the good stuff": by continually trying new-to-us products, we did hit some very satisfying ones that push out the bland/mistextured ones from then on.
