TL;DR: I tried to deposit $30 from my own bank account. Within 24 hours, Coinbase told me my buy and deposit access was disabled, then that only one transfer was declined, then that there was no restriction, then that it "has since been resolved," and then that the decision stands and can't be reversed. I verified my ID and offered every document they could want. Nobody used any of it.
What happened
I hadn't used my account in a while. I updated my bank, email, and address (all me, all in my name), then tried a $30 ACH deposit. It didn't go through.
Oct 20, 1:34 AM: Support escalated my case for fraud review.
1:51 AM: Asked to verify my identity. Done.
1:52 AM: Email: "review completed," buy and deposit "remain disabled," no further info.
Morning: Senior agent says a payment risk team has to investigate, usually 14–30 days.
~7 AM: Payment risk team says only one transfer was declined and my payment methods "remain available."
~10 AM: Support says there's no restriction. I send the email proving there was. Then: "This has since been resolved."
Oct 21, ~12:30 AM: Restricted again. Support says the decision stands, can't be reversed through support, ticket closed.
My bank confirmed the $30 never even reached them. Coinbase blocked it internally.
What bothers me
I understand fraud checks, and I get why a dormant account with fresh changes might get flagged. But:
I offered bank statements, proof of email access, and proof of address. There was no way to submit any of it.
I got at least five different answers about my account status from different teams.
Support couldn't do anything except escalate, and the people making decisions are unreachable.
I've filed a complaint with NY DFS, which licenses Coinbase in New York.
If this happens to you
Screenshot everything with timestamps.
Ask support to confirm your account status in writing.
NY residents can file with DFS. Anyone in the US can file with the CFPB.
Your crypto stays accessible. You can still sell, send, and withdraw.
Watch for scammers. Real Coinbase support won't DM you, and fake "support numbers" are all over Google.
Has anyone gotten bank deposits restored after something like this? What worked?
