I'm not saying it was ever like great or something, but steak and shake. In high school it was opened 24 hours or extremely late, the food was pretty good, the spicy chicken was one of the better ones out there, spiciness wise, The side by side shakes, etc. Went a year or so ago and it was awful. There were like a handful of menu options, it was all kiosk ordering, it took forever, the food was bad, plus there are their political activities lately that are annoying.

I remember when they were more of a dinner. It was amazing food and shakes and the sides were really good then one day it changed to more of a fast food and the sides weren’t sides anymore and then every visit was just more sad until I stopped :(

Steak and shake lost me as a customer with their pandering to RFK/maga nuts.

My dad and I used to go there for breakfast all the time when I was a kid. They had waitresses at many locations who worked there for decades, and the breakfast slapped when the main chef was working at our location. Damn, I miss old Steak n Shake.

Going to a Steak and Shake right after the movie theater was peak in the early 2000's

I last ate steak and shake in like 2001. They did a different kind of burger there, which I think we all just know as smashburgers now. It was actually really great, and so were the shakes.

Haven't seen one since though, not the region. It would be a shame if they fell off that hard, but not surprising.

Service at S&S is atrocious. I don't know how anyone can tolerate the drive through.

I used to go with my brother in the evening some 14 years ago and the wait was atrocious. It would literally take 50 minutes to get 2 sandwiches out.

Didn't help that the floor had a consistent layer of schmoo like a movie theater floor.
