Loving an animal, and earning their love in return

The first time our scared ex-feral sat on my lap and headbutted me for scritches I didn't move for hours, even when my legs went a bit numb.

Just curious how long that took- I know all cats are different but I’m hoping to have this with my baby one day.

About eight months since she moved in.

After a month or so she moved from under the sofa to just looking at me from another chair, but scuttled under it when I got up to do stuff.

It took six months for her to sit on the same sofa, at a distance. When she snuggled up to my thigh for strokes I gave backrubs and she occasionally scampered away, but came back. When she climbed into my lap a few months later she lasted a few minutes before jumping off for a prowl, but came back.

Give them the time they need. It'll come with most.

Thanks for responding. Aww that’s so sweet and gives me hope. Mine follows me around like crazy and he’s only been here for a few weeks. He rubs on my legs and walks under my feet, but occasionally paws or bites my calves. I’ll just keep feeding him and giving him space. I’m sure he’ll warm up.

If he's that affectionate you're sorted. If he's playing with toys maybe keep one on your lap.

Unless it’s a golden… they love everything.

Still totally worth loving them tho.
