This is something I have to coach new lab members on. "Someday soon you will be the expert on something. You'll know more than anyone else here on a specific topic so you'll have to be ready to take responsibility on it." Stuff like that. It's a wild experience the first time you have to go through it.
It happens in the corporate world too. I have inadvertently become the expert on a specific but very critical device our company uses - I know everything about it from it's manufacture, the costs that go into it, our own applications that incorporate it into products and the consumer experience.
There is literally nobody that even has 25% of the knowledge I have to the point they call me Ms. XXXXX, and I still remember the first time someone called me that.
I've been a professional technology instructor in corporate America for multiple decades, and a lot of my job for the past decade is coaching/mentoring newer instructors. It always makes me happy when I can say "this is my go to for <x>", but it makes me even happier when I just know they'll go on to do great things.
