Man I got really drunk at a izakaya after hearing a guy playing psytrance outside his 2nd story bar window. Stayed way later than I thought we would and after I paid for a number of my own drinks he started just pouring us wine and sake for free. Just me and my wife, a Japanese guy, and a language barrier connected by sake and psytrance. Great times.
I did this! Back in the 80s. Back then, every bar only had 2 songs in English. “My Way” and “Yesterday”. I didn’t know “My Way” very well, so I sang “Yesterday” all night. The Japanese locals were very encouraging and it was great fun, but man, what a hangover the next day at work.
Getting shitfaced on Japanese whisky and belting out karaoke at 1 am in Tokyo.
Yeah I can testify.
Was when "Get Lucky" by Pharell was out and we were singing it but we'd made a decision to just stay out til the wee hours and go to Tsukiji and get sushi for our after bar snack. So we were singing "We're up all night to get sushi, we're up all night to get sushi". And then we went to get sushi. This was just with random folk I met at the hostel I was staying in (I was solo on the way back from a work trip to China), who I'd literally met that night. So much fun.
It’s actually soo much more fun than it sounds too. The most random night with random ppl u just met fun times . I went to a club bar and karaoke one night with 5 strangers and never felt unsafe doing it too
I did this but it was in Ito around midnight, then I did it again in Sendai around noon, then I did it again in Okinawa, but around 7-8pm. All three times were incredible.
One of my favourite memories of Japan was me and some other travelers looking for fun nightlife in Osaka. We hit a few duds and then came across this random rock bar that was up a couple flights of death stairs. It was filled with cigarette smoke and graffiti and was one of the most fun nightlife spots I've found as an adult.
