My first one I saw it go in. Knew it was a good shot the whole way but seeing it drop was unreal.
2nd one was a month later and from further out, directly into a sunset. Knew it was hit well. Didn't see my ball so made a joke about it going in. Awesome seeing it go in the hole. Not as cool as the first, but my dad was with me for the first one.
Not Holes-in-one, but this past Summer I have hit 2 separate hole-ins from distance.
First one was from 107 yards out, slight downhill, and I saw it all the way...Thrilling eagle shot!
Second one was from 180 yds out, a blind shot hitting over a hill. Could not see the green at all. Didn't believe I'd hit it that well, so I looked all over before checking in the hole. Still a fun experience, but not the same as seeing it as it happened.
Had this exact experience. Aced #9 at Chambers Bay from the high point of the property, added plus of some pedestrians join in the hooting and hollering after watching the entire thing.
That said, the higher peak might've been golfing as a twosome with my elderly grandfather when he got his only hole in one at the local muni! He played 2-3x/week, I only played with him a few times a year. Fate!
There's no better feeling. My buddy (who's not good at golf) made it in from his 2nd shot on a Par 5. I was ahead of him by 50 yards when he hit and I'll never forget watching it roll for what felt like forever, seeing the ball drop and disappear, going 'holy crap did that just roll in', and all of chucking our clubs and running to the green. Just a fun moment
I used to caddy, and a few of the other guys were telling the story of the 8th hole, a par 3 with a blind hole sometimes because half the green is hidden by a rise. They were in the bush beside the green and a ball lands right in front of them. One guy goes out grabs the ball and puts it in the hole. They go hide further up the hill. All 4 guys in the group spent about 3 or 4 minutes looking for it until the guy who hit the ball says "Maybe it's in the hole", goes to check, and says "I got it! Hole in one". They could hear the whole group arguing all the way through the next tee-off because nobody believed him, they all accused him of putting the ball there when he "found" it.
So yeah, it is preferable if everyone sees it. I caddied for someone who got a hole-in-one, you could see the ball hit the green, roll along a white spot on bright green, then disappeared at the flag.

A hole in one in golf. Preferably a downhill hole so everybody can see it go in
