We did Grand Tetons and Yellowstone last summer. Stayed in Teton Village and day tripped from there to Yellowstone for a day. Making that drive up to Yellowstone during sunrise and coming back down into the Tetons at sunset was breathtaking. The way the valley gets dark but the sun is still cascading across the mountains was incredible. Also recommend doing the same at the Grand Canyon - staying in the park and getting up early to see the sun creep over the horizon and light up the canyon was awesome
I'd just say Yellowstone in general. I went a few years back for several days in early season. My ex who also loves nature didn't understand why I was so amped about going.
You realize quickly what North America used to be. I grew up in small town on southern Oregon coast and the only way I can describe it is like the Redwoods but even more epic. Both of us were amazed. It's on my short list with Switzerland, Iceland and Banff as most epic places I've been.
