All official recommendations are to update servers immediately or else take them offline for the time being. That's how severe this vulnerability is. Just being reachable is sufficient for a full takeover, from what I understand.

Started watching Turn A Gundam earlier in the week. It and G-Reco are the last full-length Gundams I have left to see, so I am excited to return to Tomino Gundam. Finished the first 4 episodes. I want to jump into the next one, but it's better to make a post now, seeing as it looks like the first intro bit has wrapped up.
I think what jumps out to me the most at the start is Turn A's setting. Sunrise made an animated short for the HG G40 redesign of the Grandpa Gundam, and I thought it was really cool to see 0079 reimagined in a Victorian-like setting. Always wanted to see a Gundam like that, and Turn A is filling that niche. It's just really fun to have a Gundam set in old-timey aesthetic times. Wow Cool Robot early 1900s instruments of war.
That anachronistic clash feels like the most thematic note to me. The series presents 3 conflicting time periods. There are the old traditional folk ways, there is the era of modernity (of the early 1900s), and the futuristic space future. It gives the show a timeless feeling. I like the decision to skip out on our contemporary present. The story of Turn A is one that encompasses all of human history. Similar to the pan-history feeling, it is not strictly one culture. The show is currently set in North America and evokes visual languages of First Nations and cowboy Americana, but the White Doll festival evokes folk traditions from all over the place. It also has the feel of European and Japanese traditional practice. Turn A is from no single time and place in specific, but also encompasses all of humanity.
Jumping ahead of myself while still on this time note, the Dark History element is intriguing. Besides introducing new Japanese vernacular, the Dark History feels interesting because it is like that typical Gundam mention of cyclical history. It is a shameful history that is best left forgotten, but the events in motion made people reopen and repeat it. It's also very meta because the Dark History is the history of Mobile Suits and literally Gundam itself. They were teased at the end of the episode, but I'm aware that Turn A physically brings back a bunch of familiar mecha. That adds to that cyclical and timeless feeling aspect of the story. It's not quite the same, but the familiar past is happening again.
I'm already a couple of paragraphs in, and there is still more on the mind to note. It's been years since I last experienced Tomino Gundam for the first time, I was a bit worried things would fly over me, but the show still has those idiosyncratic notes of Tomino Gundam. The nudity being one of them. Turn A Gundam is a show where the first 3 episodes have the MC naked. We're so back.
The trademark Gundam coming-of-age element is also here, literally with a coming-of-age ceremony being front and center. War interrupts the kids' coming-of-age ceremony, so now they are forced to navigate the world as not fully adults, but no longer fully children either. Huh, I wonder if Gundam is interested in that sort of thing, or something. Don't have a full note on it, but something else jotted down on the notepad is that Loran is 2 years late for when he is supposed to have his coming-of-age.
Don't have the time to fully dwell on this point, but Queen Diana's role is reminiscent of Queen Maria from Victory Gundam. Messianic women leaders of societies that worship her in name, but seemingly don't follow her peaceful ideals with all the violence they enact. Tomnio seems to be interested in this sort of angle of women leaders for a while.
Kihal and Sochie's characters stand out to me the most so far. They took the Sayla Mass vs Fraw Brow waifu wars and made them sisters. What actually stands out to me about them is how they're both looking to step up into roles in the adult world. They're set up in dualistic contrasts. When they were separate that night, one stayed with their father/mother. One has to persevere through the trauma around them within/One being able to outwardly show their remorse. One stepping into a civic role/One joining the martial fight.
One last big story dicussion point, the dynamics of this conflict are interesting. This whole intro bit is not a war per se, but nonetheless a hostile army entered the vicinity. There is that feeling that things haven't erupted yet, but will soon. [Turn A:] The end of episode 4 really feels like a flashpoint. The vengeful old men die, but spark conflict the younger generations must continue.
Misc points:
You know they're a Gundam mask guy when they enter the show and talk in grandiose and abnormal ways. They're just weird guys. They haven't properly introduced Harry Ord yet, so I am getting a feeling similar to watching 0079, but not knowing who Char is. There is simply a strange, flamboyantly dressed man on screen. Also, never stopped to consider how his glasses worked.
Wodoms are so weird. When they move, it doesn't feel right. So strange compared to conventional Gundam mecha language.
So far, the titular Turn A Gundam has not done much Wow Cool Robot, but I like that. It wasn't even present in the first episode. It shot a beam, but its gun immediately burnt itself out. It hasn't really been in a fight yet. The Turn A is just a big, weird mecha friend at the time being.
I don't know why Guin calls Loran "Laura". It feels like I am missing an episode that's meant to establish it. It must come up eventually.

I’ve been alcohol free for exactly one year now! I started off wanting to take a short break, but then I kept extending it until I decided to just make it a year. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t missed it sometimes, but I’m not feeling any push to go out and drink right away. I’m running a half marathon in a few weeks, so I will, at the very least, wait until that is over.

CDF I have a brilliant idea. You know how everything is vertical video now? But some of us dinosaurs are still on horizontal video? I've got a solution. Diagonal video It's viewable from both the horizontal and vertical positions, so nobody has to adjust their phones to watch the videos.
I even have a great idea to drive adoption of diagonal video. You can just feed regular horizontal or vertical video to an LLM, and then have it hallucinate the corners, and then you market it as being "AI enhanced". If I know anything, that's a wallet opener Venture capital upon hearing this idea
Just think about it. That's like double the viewership potential, since nobody has to adjust their phones no matter their preferred viewing orientation!

My cousin is visiting for the weekend and I have an interview Monday. I don't think I have the time to watch Cinderella Gray before the Uma live next week
I've read the manga past where the anime is (and might end up just finishing it on the flight to LA) but I still feel like a LARPer.
The way ticketing is handled for a lot of fairly large JP artists/franchises/properties in the U.S. is really dumb IMO. I saw this morning that they just dropped a significant batch of tickets including VIP tickets. Hololive has done the same thing in the past (pre-sale -> general sales -> last minute huge ticket batch) as has another vtuber concert I have been to and the model just doesn't work in America. Very few people will be attending any of these concerts last minute since everything is so geographically spread out (especially for thursday/friday night concerts since you can't get people who are willing to do a last minute weekend trip) and it pisses off people who are going since they may have bought worse tickets which they now can't offload. The organizers also presumably don't like have 1/4 of the tickets unsold too, but I have seen it so frequently I can't help but wonder if it is a "this is the best way to maximize revenue, attendance & fan satisfaction be damned" situation trying to maximize FOMO instead of just getting a right sized venue and selling all the tickets at once (or at most doing pre-sale rounds)

Thinking about it, I've got a bit of a complex relationship with Bokurano. Large portions of the start were excellent. I adored the storyline where [Bokurano]the teacher groomed and raped his student. It was properly horrific whilst still giving its audience enough respect to know that they do not need to be beat over the head by someone saying his behavior was deeply morally wrong. It also was believable, made me understand how a kid like her could fall for and get manipulated by a guy like him. And, of course, its OP was an all-timer.
Yet the anime as a whole falters. The last portion sucked, and the main reason I'm not giving a more detailed complaint is that it was too incoherent for me to have one.
So I'm left in this odd state where the anime is important to me, yet I don't think I'd ever desire to rewatch it. Yet I'd struggle to ever recommend it to a friend. It's simultaniously worth it and not.

This is really random, but can you guys respond to this comment with any whole number from 1 to 7? Whichever number gets commented the most (or whichever one was first, if there's a tie by tomorrow night) picks which of 7 shows out of a shortlist I'll watch next now that I'm done with Death Note. I think this method is more fun than just throwing up a strawpoll with the names of these 7 shows in it, so yeah.

Couple of my coworkers dropped into my gym to say hi on the way home!
It's nice to be able to share my hobbies with my them. Got to pull my big man trick where I showed off my work towards doing the splits (I believe I'll achieve a full split one day).
Found out today they can both do pullups. One of them was able to do three before he started struggling to get his chin above the bar, the other was able to clear the bar pretty cleanly for 5+ reps.
The former is gonna join a bench with me sometime soon so that'll be fun.
I did some Overhead Pressing and feet up benching today. Funny thing with big compound movements is when you realize - my lower back was not ready to support that much weight above my head. Should've warmed it up some more.

/u/ProgrammaticallyPea3 I've been thinking about this, and I kinda intended to respond at some point, and then it fell off my mind. But I think Japanese people's poor pronunciation of English is fairly typical under the conditions you specified. Mostly because the British were fucking everywhere, and everywhere the British were, English has decently strong roots as a secondary language (like India for instance). Also because English is generally so phonetically flexible, and thus, it takes a bit to butcher it to being consistently difficult to understand.
I struggle to think of places that aren't East Asia that have little history of English, and yet actually have significant amounts of their population actually speak it. Like South America is very Spanish based, so a romance language. Australia obviously speaks English natively. Europe and North America is obviously out. Which basically just leaves Asia, and Africa. And I think it's usually either that they don't speak English like at all, or they were a former British colony.
I suppose one could view Japan as an American colony for the post war period (which also coincides with the rise of America as a global superpower and English becoming the lingua franca of business).
But I would also say that Chinese people sometimes strike me as similar levels of poor pronunciation (which is separate from their fluency). I had a Chinese coworker (fun fact, he actually said that he could understand Japanese a little bit, cause his hometown was kinda close to Japan, and so some words were extremely similar between his hometown dialect and Japanese), and he was quite well spoken, but despite living in America for many years, his pronunciation was on par with Japanese pronunciation imo.
Though that does also remind me, that whenever I get my hair cut, which is always by a Vietnamese person (I've quite literally only gotten my hair cut once in my life by someone who wasn't Vietnamese, and that was because I got it cut in Indiana), that I can never understand what they're saying.
I think the pitches really do a number for my native understanding, and causes me to misidentify syllables.
Yeah, it's both mandatory and considered one of the 5/6 "core" subjects in junior high/high school, on par with Japanese and math. But since basically every exam is a written one, there's little incentive to work on pronunciation in school, and Japanese schoolteachers are generally products of the same system so tend to have pretty poor English pronunciation themselves. These factors, on top of the linguistic distance you mentioned, also contribute to the size of the eikaiwa industry which offers instruction in areas that schools are weak in.
Though I think this is fairly unique for Japan. The other places, I think are more expected, since they don't speak English, don't have a history of English, and it's truly a minority thing in those places (like China). I struggle to think of a place that so heavily forces English on it's youth (and for such a long time), and still has such poor pronunciation (on the whole). Though I suspect that there is some survivorship bias here, as I'm not very knowledgeable about Africa in general. I feel like the former British colony's have good pronunciation (though always with their own accents that one can pick up on), though they were likely forced into speaking it by the British in the first place, thus preventing the feedback cycle from really getting started, as they would have had British English teachers pushing the language.

daughter: EWW DAD GROSS!
dad: what? i just got back from the lumbermill
laughtrack
and then another one i thought of the other day
main character walking down street frustrated and in a hurry to meet shinzo abe:
bumps into a guy
the guy: hey cant you watch where youre going
main character: OH SUE ME
the guy (turns out to be shinzo abe):
main character: err uhh, i mean, s-sumimasen! your highness
laughtrack
i dont actively think of these, they literally just spawn in while im in the shower, or taking a piss, or taking a piss in the shower. idk wish i had a third one, there was another one i thought of in the style of family guy the other day but i dont remember it now

Old threads seem to have more readers than I thought...
I was checking out some Oshi No Ko episode threads, and in one of them I had like 6 comments with triple digit karma; I don't recall ever having that many in a single week (like when I check for CDF's "top of the week" thing). Which means they got it slowly over time, long after the episode aired.
(Ironically, what I was looking for is a DOWNVOTED comment I recalled having in one of these threads, I wanted to see if it was triple digits hah. It probably is, if it also kept earning downvotes, but sadly I couldn't find it).

i heard that reviewers are panning the new street fighter movie hard, and honestly im happy to hear that. i havent seen it yet, but its the type of movie where you kind of want it to be bad, because that's what makes it good. if reviewers were calling it good, then that would be a bad sign. because there's a difference between saying "that movie is good" and "that street fighter movie is good." for a movie to be good, it must be good; but for a street fighter movie to be good, it must be bad.

re: TLS
The private key sizes of the compromised keys ranged from 3 to 8 bits. Astonishingly, the private keys were 4, 56, 66, 115, 155, 156, 230, 237.
Okay, did you really need to tell everybody the private keys? I guess maybe it became obvious if you knew to look.
It reminds me of a time when I was on a team exercise to attack intentionally bad crypto, to see how many bad things we could find.
I noticed that I could set the modulus to 1 and exfiltrate some stack bytes. I was very proud of myself.

I saw something real serious on Twitter.
My honest reaction:
I'm a very big fan of the first few Serious Sam games, i.e. The First Encounter/The Second Encounter and (a bit less so) Serious Sam 2. I also remember liking the PS2 game The Next Encounter. I grew up with those games - TSE in particular, I know quite literally all secrets in that game by heart, and I played the multiplayer in that a lot - so big Sam Stone might as well be my second dad. I never really got too interested in the later games though, their gameplay/story was a bit weird for me.
Them teasing an official sequel to TSE and it having a Steam page too... let's just say that I don't think I've ever shed tears over news of an upcoming game, or a game teaser.
Until today.

Welp, looks like that opportunity went down the drain. My support worker messaged me that "she's open to the idea, but she feels like the timing isn't right atm and she'd like to work on herself first".
So I'm going to take that as a "well yes but actually no", at least for now.
Back to the apps, it is..
Also as I haven't used them in a while as I was awaiting her answer, I decided to briefly check them earlier this week to see if I got any likes in the meanwhile. Actually got one again!

Oh my God Tamriel Rebuilt is fucking amazing
This might seriously be the best gameplay experience in the entire Elder Scrolls franchise. The cities are bigger, the quests are more engaging, and there is just so much world to explore!
I think my favourite aspect is just how many new services are available to the player. Base Morrowind just has the typical buildings you see in every RPG town - shops, inns, quest hubs, NPC houses - which is fine, but then you get to the mainland and the cities have banks and courthouses, and then Narsis even has a casino and a stock exchange? What the fuck?
And that's not to mention how much work was put into the aesthetics of the thing. Everything from the landscape of the new areas to individual pieces of armour feel right at home, as if they were always part of the base game. And the city design, oh my god... this is the first time in an Elder Scrolls game where I've wanted to just walk around the city streets and see the sights. Roa Dyr in particular has got to be one of the most gorgeous towns I've seen in any video game. The entire place feels like walking through a Japanese garden, it is stupidly pretty.
I managed to put over 200 hours just into Morrowind's base game, and with Tamriel Rebuilt I can easily see that number tripling. The other games on my backlog are going to have to wait a long, long time.

I woke up like an hour and a bit ago, so I decided to order some Chinese lunch specials before lunch closed, since those are usually a great deal. I found a restaurant that was gonna close in 3 minutes. I quickly put my order in for 5 lunch specials and made a literal last minute audible to add deep fried oreos.
Unfortunately, 30 minutes later, they canceled my order cause they were closed (this restaurant closes for like an hour between lunch and dinner).
Ok, so now it was like 3:15 PM and I still wanted Chinese lunch specials, so I found a new restaurant that still had lunch options, and ordered my 5 lunch specials for the next few days.
Okaa-san pops her head into my room sometime later and reminds me that she made hard boiled eggs, which I had agreed to eat some this morning last night. Food wasn't here so I ate them (they were good with chili sauce). And my mom goes, "oh yeah, I was thinking of ordering Chicken Rice for dinner, do you want some?". Now I love me some Chicken Rice, but I told her that I had just ordered a bunch of Chinese lunch specials.
"Ok, so we'll all have your Chinese for dinner then"

Odorouyo Sunday, Week 69
I post a video containing some anime dancing every weekend.
It's still Spooky Month!
I think I originally found today's entry looking on YouTube for the Singin' in the Rain scene which it borrows its audio from. I later discovered it has a MAL page and everything.
Let's join a girl as she finds a pair of tap shoes dancing on their own. Watch out, girl, they might be possessed by a ghost!
Gisoku no Moses
Bonus: As long as I'm here check out the original scene from Singin' in the Rain. As far as dance scenes on film go, you can't go wrong with Gene Kelly!

Speaking of Moby Dick, I recently started reading a book called Hell's Heart that advertised itself as "sapphic Moby Dick in space." I read a few chapters, and it seems that that's exactly what it is. Add in some social commentary about how capitalism sucks and certain forms of religion are predatory and money focused, and that's the book. There is a small catch, however, and that is that the prose sucks so much ass.
See, the book is written as a memoir written by the narrator herself years after the events take place. So the narrator voice often speaks directly to the audience, as the main character, assuming an audience of people within that universe. That's not a problem. What is a problem is that the voice of the author, as the main character, is so goddamned irony poisoned 90% of the time that it made me want to throw the book against the wall.
No, book, I do not need you to take a couple sentences to explain that when you tell me to follow you on a tour of the ship, it is a literary device and that I cannot actually follow you. I know that.
No, book, I do not need an aside where you tell me that this story has themes. You have been hitting me in the head with them with the subtlety of a baseball bat for a dozen chapters. And, need I remind you, I am a person who is reading a fiction book that I bought on purpose for the sake of reading a story. Themes are to be expected. In fact, I would be upset if you managed the herculean feat of writing a story without any themes at all as I would probably feel like I wasted my time reading vapid nonsense.
The only parts of the book that were actually compelling were when either the irony was relatively low or the sentiment being expressed was strong enough to survive the voice expressing it.
Anyway, I got maybe 1/5 of the way through the book until there was a chapter that had a final paragraph leading to a final sentence that was genuinely good and compelling. And since, having never read Moby Dick myself, I am only 60% sure the idea behind said line was taken directly from Moby Dick, I decided to stop reading the book so my feelings on it are as positive as possible (as I fear if I continued reading it they would be soured even more than they were), because that way I don't feel like I wasted my money.
And, side note, this experience was the final straw to make me decide not to read Dungeon Crawler Carl. The person at the register when I bought the book told me that he loved this book and that it was like DCC. No shade on him or any likers of either Hell's Heart or DCC, it just ain't for me.

I, uh... Artpost. So much for doing one every 5 days, apparently if I spend an entire afternoon and it's not too complex I can do one fairly quickly now? At least with the size of paper I'm using.
Mika (IBO), to match my Orga from two days ago. Very light reference though it's probably more obvious when I'm barely using references - more shading and facial anatomy mistakes. Tried using a blue hue again for some additional colors, but with his blue eyes and dark blue undershirt it just looked muddy and diluted, so threw some red back in to try to fix it. It's... fine, but not exactly what I was hoping for.
Anywaysssssss yeah. I haven't had to do upper body anatomy like at all in recent drawings, and it shows I haven't done any proper study on it. Arm muscles in general from most angles just confuse me. I've usually been able to hide this with long sleeves or baggier clothes (or just drawing poses where the arms are out of frame, haha) but I should probably fix that soon... I'm looking around my room now, there's all of four bare arms in the drawings I have up, none of which are muscular. Kiki in a direct copy, so no anatomy even thought about, [Clannad Afterstory]Ushio in a pretty bad one (early last year, so skill level was pretty terrible), Syl from Stormlight Archives is a spren so doesn't even have muscles, and Eponine holding a flag that covers up half her arm anyways.
I've been pretty good at avoiding drawing arms, I should finally face this head on

Birthday was October 15th on Thursday, but got to have a nice breakfast at a restaurant the day after.
This past year has been...frustrating to say the least in terms of career aspirations. Leaving me with regrets of things I wish I could have done when I was younger, but just didn't have the knowledge or awareness of. That being said, I do appreciate the experiences I've gained and the confidence it's built up. Here's to hoping I won't be saying the same things next year. I believe.
That Fortune's Weave Expansion Pass announcement dropped the night of October 14th and it's DLC I do want so that was a nice coincidental birthday gift.

For the people who were hyping up Romelia War Chronicle... I'm very much whelmed. Maybe underwhelmed. Not a good sign that I'm pausing mid-episode 2 to write this out...
I've seen at least a few people comment that Romelia's similar to 86's Lena and... no? Not really? Outside of them both being female commanders? There's like... no similarities between their personalities or goals or drives as far as I can tell...
Also kindaaaaaa not a fan of the worldbuilding or how the recruits are being depicted. [RWC episode 2 just in case whatever]Having the noble from a distant area be more familiar with the on-the-ground conditions than the actual soldiers seems... wrong. Why are the recruits training in a style designed for fighting against humans rather than against demons? Why are they not aware that demons have attacked other villages and the royal army hasn't done a thing to help them? If anything, they should already be jaded against the royal army if they actually lived in the area and knew of the circumstances...
And from the setup of these 2 episodes, it seems like the direction it's going to take is the "Romelia is always right" approach that seems so common in Banished from Parties stories, which is very much not why people loved Lena's arc. Lena was a very flawed character from the beginning but persisted and tried her best to improve at whatever flaws were pointed out... But Romelia doesn't seem to have any noticeable flaws, or at least none that the show direction is pointing out. Onto episode 3, I guess, but I'm prettttttty sure this is going to end up as a drop from me. Everything about it seems, at best, mediocre so far.

I know it's irrational and petty as hell, and I literally only encounter this watching/listening to American media, but the American custom of calling people and opening with 'Hello, how was your day?' gets on my nerves so goddamn fast.
Like there's only one plausible answer, which is any variant of: 'Good, how about you?' Like you can't even respond negatively anyway, so why bother asking?
As far as I can tell, it does nothing but increase the length of the phonecall.

If you were to come up with your own dream list of 6 pokemons you'd want.
Would you bother with restrictions like rarity (maybe no Legendaries (possibly one of a kind) or even no high rarity stuff like Dratini / Bagon / Feebas / Eevee line) or maybe even stick to only very common spawns?
Would you factor in Mon utility like being able to learn Fly / Surf / Teleport or something like Meowth's Pay Day or Rotoms or Ditto?
Would you own something in the Ralts / Buneary line or some other incredibly, uncomfortably humanoid, possibly overtly masculine/feminine Pokemon?
Would you be affected by the hipster genome awakening within you, and thus avoid mons that are perceived as too popular , too cute , too cool , or would you stay true to your preferences, their overwhelming popularity be damned?
Would you own any of the many mons that are probably a little too good and too effective at killing/assassinating people, would you even go out of your way to include/exclude them?

I thought I was onto something when I realized that being a seller of pokemon food would be easy, consistent money in the pokemon world. But then I realized that the pokemon food economy is basically the same economy as the food economy, with all the same pros and cons.
Sure the demand for processed mon food is probably sky high, but as our world demonstrates, there's probably going to be far too many restaurants and processed food brands competing for the same pie, and the pie sure ain't growing fast enough to match that many middleman in the food chain.
I like how the literal second major arc in the Adventures manga is about pokemon and some four rando elitists trying to genocide humanity for being unceasing , uncaring environmental polluters. Thus establishing the concept of genocide in the pokeverse.
It's only a matter of time until a major food crisis hits the pokeverse and the Legendary mons start debating if humanity is worth keeping around.
